Working on Type B in Ohio

Hello! I'm making the switch from casual sitter to licensed home day care. I'm in Ohio, and currently am just a legally unlicensed provider. I'm working on devouring some Tom Copeland books and this forum.
Are there any Ohio Type B providers who would like to mentor? happyface

Many. I tend to get stuck on the little details.
This morning I've been trying to find out details on getting the classes for certification. I have not yet talked with my local JFS, and I know I should call them Monday. Do I turn in an application first thing, or do I wait til I have completed the requirements (background checks, CPR, etc)? Do the JFS offer classes locally or am I in charge of finding my own and getting to them?
Do you know where I can read through the requirements just as they are? I found a place where it lists them, but it shows the recent changes crossed out, new things added in different colors, and it makes my head hurt trying to sort through which parts actually apply.

I got a copy of the "real" regs by calling JFS and talking to someone. She emailed me the stuff, all the everythign I would need. I think (?) that they recommended getting all the classes before applying but I could be wrong.

It's a pesky, fiddly business, getting licensed in OH. It took me a couple years to even find out *how*. It is really dumb. I'm happy being legally unlicensed.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Call djfs they will help you get it all sorted out. It really is not that bad of a process. Yes, ours offers the class locally but they wait until they have a class so you need to talk to them! They can also do a walk through to let you know what you will need to do.

I was leaning that way. Someone else told me they thought that some of the classes you had to have a sponsor to enroll. I'll definitely be calling JFS in the morning.
Sadly, JFS pays a lot more than most parents in this area, so that is convincing me to take the leap.

If you taking county kids, BE FIRM. Upfront they need to pay their copayment on Monday. Have in your contract two week notice but know you will not get it. Know hat these kids are generally here a limited time so love on them... But know it may not be for long.
I limit to one county family, but I understand your need for kids. I get more from my private pays.

                Thanks for the guidance.
One of my current families just told me that she qualifies for JFS assistance, so she's very anxious for me to get certified. Their family is less than stable, so I'm already getting a taste of what you mean about loving on them. In this town, I'm competing with sahm's who offer $15/day.
I was able to get a hold of the local JFS this morning, and I'll be swinging by when it's just me and mine later this afternoon. Very excited to get started on being official.
(And enjoying that all 4 are napping well this afternoon!)
