I am so so so so so sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired of telling these kids 1 THOUSAND times a day to leave the chairs A-L-O-N-E. To put them B-A-C-K at the table.........they think they are musical chairs.....moving them all over the playroom.....tipping them over, sitting on the bottom while the chairs are upside down......over and over and over.......they don't give it a second thought that I've told them to leave them at the table......... in fact, just about 5 minutes ago, I removed the chairs from the playroom and put them in the kitchen. One of my 3 yr old girls asked why I took them away. I told her 'because, I told all of you to stop moving them and since no one is listening to me, I am taking them away until lunch time'.............I'm heading to Toys R Us this weekend to replace it with a picnic table!

I so agree with you. I have two tables in my playroom, but no chairs for that very reason. I just cannot tolerate them messing with the chairs. No matter how many times I would tell them to leave them alone, they wouldn't. A picnic table is the way to go. They cannot move that around. ::

Your so lucky it is not a problem in your setting.
Not a thing wrong with Craigslist or yard sale stuff. I have a lot of it myself. To the kids it is brand new.

You are lucky then! Every single one of mine here take turns moving the chairs around......it's a game. They are either using them for a hide out or they are moving them for something else. I bought this set at Ikea, very inexpensive and I don't care if they color on it either. Kids are kids and it's to be expected. I'm sure moving the chairs around is fun too for them, otherwise they wouldn't do it constantly. I'm just tired telling them to leave them at the table. So, since they can't seem to listen, I"ll just buy the picnic table ::

I absolutely refuse to spend to many dollars on stuff for my daycare, inexpensive is the way to go. Kids are rough with everything and I get tired of them breaking my stuff too.
Just wanted to add about chairs and daycare. My kids always wanted to jump off the chairs. Lets just say, I got tired of it all...........chairs gone, problem gone.

I would suggest you keep checking craigslist. I found the picnic table that folds and it is so nice when daycare is closed. I just fold it up and push it in a corner. I only paid like $20 and it was in great shape.

Thanks for your input- I will search for picnic tables instead- and yes it is pricey, but if the quality is there and it is natural it is tempting for me to spend a little bit more.
I do a lot of craiglist, homemade, and garage sales to allow for some splurges. Also, my daycare is all natural resources ( wooden, pottery, china, wool, cotton) it is hard to come by handmade wooden objects that aren't pricey- sadly or at least I have been having a hard time!
                  I follow a Montessori/ Waldorf mOdel mainly

It IS really hard to find those type of items (without spending a ton). I try and go towards that but have settled for very few electronic toys and that sort of thing as a happy medium.

It is really sad- that you have to pay an arm and a leg for it...makes it very hard to provide a natural environment, unless your handy.
Battery operated toys going on and off drove me nuts BUT I do have some I bring out from time to time

Oh and I love how natural toys/ materials let the children really use their imaginations
