    Not Getting The "Right" Calls

I have an opening for a ft child. Got a call today for a mom looking for ft care for a 3 year old and a spot for 3 schoolagers on non school days.

I am working on getting out of schoolagers, I wouldn't know how to even charge for 3 schoolagers, and I will not only be used a handfull of days per year. She is going to have a very hard time finding someone to do it.

The kids in your area must go to school all the time compared to here! Last week we started school on Monday then they had Friday off. We will have 1/2 day later this month, then another one next month and also a day off. In November there is a week and two days off, December 2 weeks for Christmas break. In January there are two days off, two in February and also 1/2 day. Another week and two days for March then in April 1 1/2 days off. That leads us up to May with another day off. It adds up to something like 36 days off during the school year!!!!!! Why not just give them another month of summer vacation!!!!!! I would be so up to that.

So as you see in our area SA are always in need of childcare. Oh, that is just the elementary schedule, middle school and high school have totally different schedules. I have one elementary, one middle schooler, and two high schoolers and I know one day I will send someone to school on the wrong day when they won't have school but who can keep up with it-
Each day is a fresh start

We only get one shot at this!!

Our school started Aug 23, they went to school on Mon, Aug 29, then have the next 3 Mondays off. It seems like they are getting more and more days off each year. I just lost 2 schoolagers, and I really don't want to get involved with SA again. Not worth it around here.

It must have been a very cold winter here because 95% of the calls I am getting is for infants! I don't take infants so I have been turning them away. I hate doing that it's like saying no I don't need any money. It's just too hard for me to manage infants and toddlers here. Kudos to those of you who can manage it tho! I just found it too risky and exhausting. If I had some help I could do it but just me... I'm weak ::

I hope u get the right calls soon Mac!

Bummer. I hope you get the right calls soon.

No way I would take on three school-agers that I hadn't helped "raise" myself. That's gonna be tough for the Mom.

I wouldn't even know what to charge for 3 schoolagers on only non school days. To me it would not even be worth the occassional hassle of having them. I know I recently lost 2 who became schoolagers, ages 7 and 5, because the mom thought $55 per week for 2 schoolagers was too much money. Ugg. This lady actually had a 3 yr old and 3 school agers.

I'm having the same problem as you are, lots of calls are for 1 full time but they all have a couple of school age kids attached to them and no one wants to pay anything for school age. In MI we can only have 6 so I don't like to use a space for school age unless some one leaves before they arrive. Otherwise I past on them, plus they are my least favorite age group.

As I told the mom who thought that $55 for 2 schoolagers was "too much". I said it is not like we can schedule 15 kids for the day, and hope that only 6 show up, because when that happens, then we are in trouble. Parents don't get it at all.
