It's called positive reinforcement. I have degrees in Psychology and Early Childhood education-it's a fact. This works. Adults do this too. Don't we work for the paycheck on Fridays?? What if we had no reinforcement?
I don't think like this.
I don't think that being paid money for working is the same thing as being given a reward for doing something that you must do for yourself or your group.
I like the idea that the postive reinforcement for cleaning toys is the clean floor and toys in their place. The postive reinforcement for washing your hands is clean hands. The positve reinforcement for eating your veggies is a healthy body, lots of energy, and nice poopys the next day.
I'm not against doing reward charts or giving rewards for things that they should be doing in the first place. Hey.. to each their own... but I know for a one hundred percent fact that you can raise a group of kids year after year and never do a single reward for the expected and end up with great performing children who become self sufficient and do good deeds for the group.
