    Daily/Monthly Rate Question

I'm a daycare provider and my rates are $35/day which equals out to $700/month based on 20 days. I charge $700 even if they attend less then 20 days a month. However, most months have more than 20 days. All of the full-time children I've ever had seemed to have a few days throughout the month where they didn't attend (parent's days off), so the $700 was adequate as they did not attend more than 20 days a month. A new full-time child has just started and their parents gave me post-dated cheques all for $700/month. As they are school teachers he will be attending every week day. Most months he will be here 22+ days. Do I charge $35/day for every single day or should I just do the flat monthly rate?

I have a few school teacher families as well and if it's anything like here there is rarely a month that I have them in care every weekday. They have so many random days off...in-service, holidays, etc. that I think your flat monthly rate would be fine for them.

Yes, I was thinking that in the end it would work out. I'm just happy to have post-dated cheques so that I'm actuallly paid on time. It seems to be a constant battle to be paid on time.

Wow, $35 a day is a lot. I bet everything is more expensive where you are than were I am! Ask yourself this: Are you happy with $31-$35 per day for childcare? If you want at minimum $35 per day, then you should have monthly rates increased to $770. Do you have to keep it at $35 per day or can you keep it the same $700 per month and just ask for certain monthly supplies like cleaning supplies and tissues? I do agree that in the end it does work out for days.

I'm in Canada and where I live that is totally normal. Daycare rates here are anywhere from $30-$40 a day (or even more for extended/odd hours).

I think I will keep it at $700/month even if there are more than 20 days during the month. It's less confusing for everyone, and I'm satisfied with bringing in that amount per child each month.

I offer parents a 3% discount if they pay the monthly fee up front.

You could consider that too. If they choose to pay monthly and pay you up front for the entire month, charge them $665 a month.
