What are Your State Requirements for Changing Diapers?

Just curious how this issue varies from state to state. Do you have times that you have to change? Are you required to wake up a sleeping child if they need to change (or check diapers even during nap times)?

I've read CA regs and do not see anything regarding this. I'm interested to see if anyone else knows anything about this!

I know we are suppose to change diapers as needed so I guess if they ask you specifically if you should wake a resting child who just wet themselves to change them, you would play it safe and tell them what they want to hear "YES" LOL. If they're sleeping and stinky I change them, if they're sleeping and wet I don't wake them. I change diapers just before nap and right away as they wake up. Parents don't wake their 18 month olds every hour all night long to check for a wet diaper. Then again, some maybe do! ::

To clarify, ours is every 2 hours or as needed.

I am in MA this is what it says for us

-each childs diaper is changed on a regular basis throught the day and when wet or soiled

-educator must was hands with soap and hot running water before and after.

-childs hands must be washed with water and soap after and hands fried with a paper towel

other then that its the norm. must have a flat surface, intact, imprevious to water and easily cleaned. this area may not be used for anything else.

I find in general our regs (NJ) are no where near as detailed as some I've read here... Ours say to change promptly when wet or soiled, clean nonpourus surface or pad is used and sanitized after each use, wash hands w/soap & water after each change, have sufficient quantity of clean diapers and have a container w/lid for soiled diapers.

I don't have a can w/lid though... wonder if I'd get in trouble for that - I use those little bags on a roll and throw them in my regular garbage.

Our regs are to check/change diapers at least every 2 hours. To change ASAP when poopy. But we don't have to wake kids up to change pee diapers. (I would wake to change a poopy regardless. I hate when a kid rashes up in my care)

I was told that in CA, a provider must check during nap times and wake to change if necessary.....
