Help With Letter Please...

How does this sounds? Any advice or suggestions would definitely be welcomed.

Dear Parents
It is with a very heavy heart that I have made the decision to no longer provide care for infants under the age of 18 months effective September 16, 2011.

This decision was not an easy one to make and was based not only on recent and recurring medical conditions that pose continued physical restrictions but also so I may provide the highest quality program for the children that are in my care.

This decision was made with the children’s interests being first and foremost in my mind so if you have any questions or concerns or would like resources to search for alternative childcare options please don’t hesitate to ask.

Do your parents know about your medical condition specifically? If so they will understand why you are making this decision. If they do not know what is wrong, maybe something in letter just touching on it a little, so they can see that it is not going to be of concern to them that you can watch the older ones and why. Make sense?

besides some grammer issues it sounds pretty good... My question as a parent would be why can't you care for the younger ones, but you CAN care for the older ones? I think that maybe you should explain that a little so the parents of the older kids will understand and feel comfortable...

It's tendonitis in my wrist so I'm not able to lift or carry the little ones for extended periods. They all know I was out yesterday afternoon for cortisone injections and that it has been an ongoing condition since my girls were infants but has gotten much worse since adding an infant a month ago.

This decision was not an easy one to make, but was done so that I may provide the highest quality program for the children that are in my care.
( I would leave out the medical restrictions. They might believe if you can't care for a 14 month old you may have trouble with a 20 month old too!)

I'd put a period after 'in my mind" and start a new sentence with "If you have any questions..."

I would not add anything about a medical condition. You do not have to justify yourself to the parents or give an explanation other than you have just decided that is is best for you if you do not take infants.

Too much info and you may find that parents of older children will assume that you are somehow impaired and maybe not able to care for their older children too. Just stick to absolute basics.

I would definitely leave out any reason bearing WHY. The medical condition, the physical restrictions, etc.

Many parents might wonder how you are able to maintain a QUALITY program with a medical condition or restrictions. They figure if you can't care for their 7 month old, you can't care for their 27 month old. KWIM?!

I agree with this, but I think that you should reassure the other parents that you will have no probelm caring for children of older age..

If it were me, I would just say that due to recent changes, i will no longer be able to offer care to child of XYZ age. Like wdmmom is saying, if you say you can't care for one age, why can you care for another?? parents might feel uneasy about it....
