    Thanks for the backbone!

This goes out to everyone in the community, but especially those of you who have taught me, either directly or indirectly, to have a backbone; to stand up for myself, my business, and my policies. I've been doing SO MUCH better lately and am much happier as a result.

I just finished an email to a potential client (this is what sparked me to write this post) and caught myself apologizing for one of my policies. I changed that wording right away...apologizing is silly! Especially when it's something I'm NOT bending on. The gentleman asked whether there's flexibility on my rates if he provides food and drinks for his child. I started to say, "Unfortunately, I don't permit..." but took out the "unfortunately." It's not unfortunate; it's a fact! And there's no way I'm letting a parent provide food and drinks. I did explain that one child having different food causes too much trouble in the group.

I doubt I'll hear from him again; I'm not worried. The right client will come along soon enough. I'm tired of drama and clients who try to run my life. I have dealt with drama and crap for a year now trying to fill this one spot and I'm not taking it anymore. I have a backbone now.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I feel the same way. I've been a lot happier since finding you guys and getting advice (even just reading your experiences). I don't always agree with everything, but most of the time it helps!

Time, practice and age will do that for you. People from High School wouldn't know me :: I was such a wall flower, and afraid to stand up to anyone. (mainly b/c of my mother, but that is another story)

I learned and got a stronger back bone the older I got. Funny, at 51, just as we have the strongest back bone ever, our hormones start taking that bone strength

                Thats awesome! You go girl!

Today I decided I will keep my door locked and when dcm rings I will carry her child to answer the door. That was she has no need to come through my home.

You go girl! That's actually 2 strikes in my book right off the back. #1: asking for a discount #2: wanting to bring your own food from home. I'd be forced to respond with "We do not discount the weekly rate for any reason nor do we allow food from home. If your child has special dietary needs and accompanied by a Dr.'s note we may be able to make an exception however there would still be no discount given for the accomodation."
