What Do You Do When YOU Are Sick?

I don't have back up but I feel horrible. 2 of my daycare parents have the stomach flu but their kids are fine, 2 of my kids are now sick and right now I am wishing nap time could last until closing.

So what do you when you don't have back up? Do you **** it up and push the day? Do send the kids home and tell them you need tomorrow to recoop?

I push thru it. Unless actively puking. I've closed 4 times.

I have 5 paid sick days /yr. If i really can't make it through a day--I use the sick day.

In 10 years I've never closed because I was sick. **knocking on wood!**

I just suffer thru the day, maybe do early nap if necessary. Fortunately I never seem to get stomach viruses.

I've always pushed thru the day I had them. I too have 5 personal days that I can take for illness, doctor appts etc.

I usually work when sick. I keep my distance from the children and take care not to make anyone else sick. More than likely I caught it from a child in care anyway. I don't get sick days off. If I take a day off I have to provide a backup provider and being I never know when I will be ill it's impossible to do. The worst is when a stomach virus pops up! The kids get videos and a lot of coloring and free play that day!

I push through unless I start vomiting. Sometimes it's been a walking nightmare but I just tell myself it's only a few more hours.

If I am "low sick" and contagious I close (fever, hacking/productive cough, Flu, NVD). I give them the same respect I expect from them. This has happened twice, I think, since 1994.

Many have taken their kids to my Moms house. When parents are in a bad pinch, and have tapped all their resources, she opens up her house for them. I don't like to have this option used too often since her home is not set up for this and wears her out for more than a day or two. (NEVER more than two kids)

If I just feel really bad and am in a horribly grumpy mood (sinus, ear, throat, migraine, etc) I have my DH, SIL or Mom take over for me in our playroom.

I save these favors like precious gold. If I took advantage, I'd be out of luck later.

I thought she meant if you get sick during the workday. If I'm really sick, examples for me would be: swine flu, kidney stone, pneumonia then I close. All of my families have backup care that has nothing to do with me in case I'm not available to care for their children. I have to be really, really, can't get out of bed sick to close however.

I think you are right, she did mean during the work day... I missed that.

I am sorry if you thought I was directing my answer at your post, I was not...

I was justifying WHY it is OK to not feel guilty if you need to close to take care of yourself for the OP...

It is also what I tell my parents when I call to let them know I am closing.." I am contagious and don't want to get your whole family sick. I know you would never do that to me...."

I think it just "read" wrong the way I wrote it.

Haha! I didn't take it as directed at me...I just thought I had read it wrong for a second and figured I'd add more details. :P

I push through it unless it's something really contagious or I'm actively throwing up or I have active diarrhea (which is never). I have 3 Sick Days built into my contract but I've never used them.
