    DCM Changing Schedule On Me

DCM is sending her dcb to kindergarten on tuesdays and thursdays and the odd friday.

DCB comes here mon, thurs, and friday. Now she wants to change the days so that dcb comes tues , thurs, fridays.

My concern is that I have 2 dcks that leave at 3:15 pm, and DCM wants me to pick up her son at school. He is done at 3:20 pm.

I told her that I cant do tuesdays, I cant expect these parents to sit and wait at my house while im picking up kids.

She said that the school offers a taxi to drop him off, but she doesnt feel right about them.

She also wants to switch mon for tuesdays so she can see him more.

I dont know what to do.

I see two options here. You can ask your other DCP's if they would like a little extra time to get to DC in the afternoon and see if that works out for them. Of course I wouldn't say who but you can say that there was a request to pick a child up on these days and that you will be back by such-and-such time. Who knows? Maybe a little extra time a couple of days a week for these parents might actually seem appealing. If it doesn't work out with them (or for you) you can just let the mom know that the arrangement won't work and that she'll either have to have her child use the taxi or it won't work for you and she'll have to keep coming on Mondays instead. Okay so I guess there are 3 options .

I can see why you'd have a hard time with this. It's nice that DCM is asking for a change in the schedule so she can spend more time with her child. I'd be more inclined to put a little effort into trying to make this work too if only for this reason.

Unless you offer that service, transportation to and from school is her responsibility, not yours.

If you do offer it as a service and want to accommodate her change in schedule, would the other parents be willing/able to pick their kids up later and if necessary, would she be willing to pay overtime fees for those kids who would now be in your care later than they are actually contracted for? I'll bet if she had to cover those overtime fees for the other families who were waiting for the kids to return for pick-up, the taxi service would look much better to her.

Well all the parents pay me $30 a day, I am open from 7-5:30. The parents have the option to pick up their child at anytime during my hours. But I have 2 parents that are done at 3 pm and they come and get the kids right away.

I guess I could ask them to come later, but I think that would be a pain for them to wait around.

Good point. I didn't think about the fact that the other DCPs might go over their times.

What would the plan be for weather closures? Somedays they let out halfway through the day with little warning here.
