    Refund If Canceling During Trial?

My new contract is going out Friday so I'm just trying to add a few things.

I ask for 2 week's payment at the time they sign the contract. Covers the first week of care and essentially the last when they give 2 week's notice.

I have a 10 day trial period and was wondering what if anything you would refund if a client decided not to continue services during the 10 day trial?

I just can't find the correct wording or what I want to add.

My contract requires 1 week deposit (last week). This deposit is non-refundable except to use as payment for the last week of care. I do have a two week trial period but that just protects them from having to pay for an ADDITIONAL week of care (I require 2 weeks paid notice of termination). The deposit is non-refundable because my time getting paperwork, the lengthy interview process and preparing for the child in care needs to be compensated, IMO.

If they cancel during the trial because grandma or auntie is going to watch him after all, I say no refund.

If they cancel due to your inability to care for the child properly or because it's not a good fit, yes, I would refund the remaining amount.

I would put this in your contract:

Cancelations during the trial period are reviewed on a case by case basis. You will be notified by mail within 10 days if a refund will be issued. Any refunds will be sent in the form of ______. Please allow an additional 5 days for delivery.
