What Do You Do If You Are Summoned For Jury Duty?

yup this is happening as we speak and I am trying to contact the right people to get an excuse. Not only do I have the daycare but there is no one that I know capable of coming in and running it for a full week (my assistant has another job in addition to working here, she can't do a full day). I also have 3 kids under 4 that I would have to take to a daycare and pay them to watch them. Everyone I know works and can't commit to a week of care for 3 kids. Plus I have a breastfeeding infant at home.

Oh and if you have ever had jury duty, do you have something in the contract about this? Do you just close with no pay or what?

You should be able to get an exception under all those circumstances. I certainly will if I ever get called for it. DH got called last year and enjoyed it immensely, but he's weird like that ::
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I have always been excused from duty.

9 kids total left without stable care.

      Too many adults income effected.

Granted, I live in a small town with a HUGE unemployed population, in relation to size, currently available.

Now, when called to testify, I just closed.
      - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I just did it last month and loved it!! My parents were all understanding and able to find back up care for those 3 days. I thought it was a great break from daycare for a few days, but I missed my son!

I haven't gotten called in years (DH just did - he goes next month) but the time I did I got an exemption because of the daycare. I forget what I had to do to get it though, I think I just wrote it on there and mailed it back.

I just had it and I closed. I tried to get an exception, but they wouldn't do it other than to post-pone it, but it had to be done within 9 months or something like that.

I got an exception. Just told them I tended 16 kids and for all of the parents to find alternate care was too hard...plus I could not go without income without it being a hardship.

I think if you are BF and recently had a baby you can get an excemption. In our area it is two weeks on call and my hubs got drawn last year and never actually had to go in. I guess it still counts for his service but he never actually had to be off work.

I am coming up to do jury duty. I let my parents know a month ago about this and told them to be ready with back up childcare as it is a day by day thing. I had people outside of childcare say you need to get it excused but I thought it is a civic duty and even if I worked outside the home I would have to attend. They did give reasons for being excused and beings self-employed wasn't one. Breastfeeding, active military, student, being over 70 and something else. Anyway I figure I'll do it and get it over.

I always get excused since I started doing daycare 5+ years ago. I always write down that I do daycare & how I dont have childcare & how it puts out 6 families... too costly, etc... It always gets me off the hook & its totally true!

Load up all the kids and take a field trip to the court house on the date indicated. You'll be back home in no time. j/k
