    Need Ideas For Book Storage!

I can't stand bookshelves cause the children just yank them all off the shelf and leave them laying on the floor. And when I've used boxes they shove them in and they get all bent up. I want the older kids to be able to look at books without the crawlers & toddlers ripping them out of their hands (I, myself, have a hard time reading stories without 3 pairs of lil hands trying to attack the book!). And I want easy access for me with my whole collection! I have them all in a storage room and would like to "display" them somehow.

This has been great, no problems with it. I only put in a couple of books at a time. I only have 4 kids under 2.

You can buy those as Target or at least something similar for about $50 there. I will probably start out displaying a few books in a basket or display some standing up ontop of a shelf where you open the book a little to have it stand up. Can the person who uses "gutters" or whatever it was please say where to buy and what exactly they used? That is my favorite idea as of right now.

          I have these: http://raisingolives.com/2009/07/rai...lves-tutorial/

Someone posted this idea, on here I believe, a while back and I loved it so I had my DH put up two rows. One lower for the hardcover toddler/infant books and one higher for the paper preschool books. They are paintable and best of all inexpensive. I think we have around $10 in materials and about 30 minutes of installation time.

The kids love them! The books are easy to reach and easy to put away. I love that the front of the book faces outward so the kids can see them.

How many holes did you end up putting in the wall? I really like this idea, but I do re-arrange often and just wonder what "damage" is done where I may need to hang up posters or something while I change the layout of the room, LOL.

We hung two rows of 8 feet each. Each length has 4 screws. One on each end and two spaced out in the center. It takes up the length of one wall in my living room and the highest shelf leaves plenty of space to hang things above. I'll try to take some photos on Monday when I get back to work so you can see them.

That would be wonderful to see photos. I'm thinking about making mine about 2-3 feet wide as I can have 3 levels in height so do you think I would only need to attach each end making two holes for each shelf?

I would think that if you kept the shelf length at no more than 3 feet, you should be fine with only attaching on the ends. I rotate books frequently so I dont put a bunch out at one time; the shelves aren't crowded or weighed down.

I got this one and a little table with 4 chairs at Aldi's. At a great price too! Very sturdy and great quality!

The book shelf usually has books in it, but yesterday the kids took them all out! Oh well!

Thanks for Reposting this. I really like that idea and wanted to do it but could not find the link. I had a 3 tier cloth and woodbook case/stand but the kids would jam all if the pages into each other and rip the books/pages.
I also rotate books all the time
I try to only have books out that relate to our theme!!

I have the gutter shelves too and absolutely love them. I usually keep board books low, paperback or hardcover on the middle shelf and use the top shelf for little jars of art supplies etc. or "special" books - it depends on the kids I have at the time.

Super cheap and saves a lot of space.

I saw an easy idea where they used spice racks from Ikea. I think they sell for like $3-4 and make great book holders. Not sure if I can link the pic from my pinterest board but will try....
