Why in child care do people think a deposit isn't for an actual deposit?

I told her not once but twice that the deposit was non refundable and with it being 10 days before the start date, I'm keeping it. No way can I find someone to fill the spot that fast!

(The other family wanted a start date of 7/25 so I'm sure with that just being days away, they already found someone.)

The money was already spent on a custom window. It has a no refund policy on it too and I highly doubt the company would give me my money back so I say we're even!
