    When A Child Can't Participate

So not too sure if you all recall my post about the child with the toe infection that ended up in surgery... Well he was off for two days and comes in today with his foot wrapped up from top to bottom. He can't wear a shoe on that foot and he can hardly walk......

I don't want to send him home, but we are supposed to have our park and library outting today and for obvious reasons we will not be able to go. No way could I alone take 5 kids to the library with one in this condition who can't even wear shoes...

How many of you have allowed for a child to come in such a state as this? I know a few years back I had a kid in an arm cast, but she was still able to do everything that everyone else was doing, it did not prohibit her from being able to participate.

Stroller? Bring books, coloring stuff, something for him to do at the park while the others play? (And maybe a special snack just for him to help ease the frustration I'm sure he'll feel)
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I did think of that, but I would have to have him stay in the wagon the whole time, as he would not have any shoes.... I guess if that's the only choice that I have we can do that. But the library just can't happen today they wont allow a stroller inside....

If you can otherwise handle everyone and keep this child safe, I would go to the library and give them heck if they tell you your disabled child can't come in with his stroller. I put my DS in a stroller for his safety (he takes off) and have never had anyone question the no stroller policy when I tell them he's autistic and needs to be strapped down for everyone's safety.

Could your older daughter go and lend a hand? I would tell anyone who commented that this child cannot walk and needs to be in a stroller. It's not his fault that his foot got infected, he shouldn't be punished.

good point.... the room that we attend the story hour is very small so they told me last time no stollers because of fire code. But that's so true...what if the child was in a wheel chair, they could not deny the child entry.

I guess my only problem is taht I don't have a stroller, I have a wagon and it's huge....

I am solo. My daughter is on a back pack trip in egypt/europe right now, my older son is at football camp
I don't want to hold everyone back becuase of this, but I also want to be realistic as to what I can do alone. I have one kid who takes off, so I can't turn my back for two seconds....

I think we will just do the park and wait until next week to do the story time again at the library...

Could you get there early enough to bring him in, get him out and seated in a safe location, and maybe ask the librarian to help you move the wagon to another location while you're at story hour?

Why not do your own story time at the park?

(What an adventure for your daughter.)

OMG love this idea. We have the most perfect tree to do it under too.. Thanks so much for the idea....

I know I am so jealous of my daughter right now. I am from egypt and miss parts of home, but Europe is such a fun place to visit. I love France and Rome and Ireland.... I wish I was there...... Maybe next year... But then I say that every year....haha

I'm glad you figured out a solution! That sounds like a lot of fun. Even though he doesn't have shoes, could you bring a big blanket for him to sit on?

I'm super jealous of your DD, that's so cool. My dream is to someday through-hike the Appalachian Trail; I love backpacking. In college I tried to get enough $$ to go on a backpack tour of Europe but couldn't pull it off.

Eh.. I do. We just make changes. If we can't go on an outing this week, we stay home instead. (although I do like some notice)

If the kid can go and sit in a stroller, we'll do that. It's just the transportation in a car I worry about. I'd be afraid that other kids would trample him before I could get him out of his carseat and into a safe spot.
