    Best Toy Investment Ever...

    A box of Rubbermaid containers!...

I bought a bulk box of storage containers to use for leftovers. And since I have limited storage room right now they have just been sitting in the open box in the corner of my kitchen until I can reorganize my cupboards. The kids "think" they are being naughty by getting into it and playing with them (hahahaha). But it has been a great distraction for them while I'm trying to prepare breakfast or lunch! My daughter had a fit when they were first getting into them, "Mom! They are getting them dirty!" I told her it was just as easy to throw them in the sink when they were done playing as it is to put them back in the box. Now I'm going to make a "discovery box" of odds and ends of different containers (plastic frozen juice containers, butter tubs, etc) and someday replace it with that (so I can actually use my new ones!).

One day when I only had an infant and an 18 mo. I had a box of the sides (12" x12") to those cubes you build into a shelf. I also had an empty box sitting there. The 18 mo. old, spent a good 30 minutes, taking the sides from one box, until full and then moving back to the other. She was totally content and occupied!
