I hate that. I have one early start child that has me open an hour an half earlier than everyone else. I know it shouldn't drive me nuts but when they are over an hour late I do get frustrated.

That's funny you posted this. I was just thinking this a.m. how my dck are always late on Mon. I don't get this b/c that means their parents are late to work every Monday.....

And they are all here, except for one.

I don't mind if the group is late....I do sort of hate waiting for one family. I just feel like it is hard to get anything started and then have to stop and greet the late family. I know some people don't stop and greet, but I greet each family every morning, chat for a few and then greet them each evening and talk for a few.

Plus, if I need a bathroom break, I have to have one of my children look out the window and call me if someone pulls in to the driveway! I would hate it if parents were standing in my entry way and I was nowhere to be seen!

In the beginning, I had the same issue...parents not showing up at their scheduled drop off time. Now I have a fee associated with it.

Parents must call, text or email 30 minutes before drop off time if their child will be late or not coming for the day. Failure to provide appropriate notice will result in a $10.00 convenience fee in addition to your normal daily charge.

The only issue that I've had since then is alarm clocks not going off on time in which event they call me right away! And it's only happened twice since I've had this policy in place! ::

I don't do contracted hours and honestly, for the most part...I love having two hours of quiet time. I do ask parents to call me if they are going to be past 9am and they do pretty well with it. The whole idea of having fees associated with everthing rubs me the wrong way.

On an interesting side note...I'm closing in a few weeks and I've been talking to my dcp about how their search has been going. There are very few viable options in my area. One of the providers in my area is charging $100 extra per month, per child for her preschool curriculum...now, she isn't a preschool teacher and it isn't a purchased curriculum. She is just charging extra to do educational activities with her dck...which begs the question...what is she doing with those who don't participate? If she is charging an extra $100 a month for her time...what in the world are the other parents paying for!?

I don't have to worry about that. Mine are all under 19 mos. If I go to the bathroom, they all follow!::::::::

They move in a heard, the three mobile ones do! If one goes to one part of the room the others all follow.

And if providers didn't associate time with money, we'd all be working 24 hours a day and having people coming at all hours of the day & night.

Our time is valuable...it's a service you pay for. If your scheduled drop off time is 630am and you want to drop off at 6am, you're going to pay for it and it better be approved in advance. Are you going to work for your job for a half hour for free??? I think not! Why do you think employers don't like to pay overtime?! IT COSTS MORE!!!!

Well, two things. One, this post is about parents arriving LATE, not early, so I am not working for free.

And two... I am not open 24 hours so people aren't going to be showing up at all hours of the day and night! If they did, they'd be sitting in the car! Your comparison make zero sense.

I am open from 6:30 to 5pm. Anyone is welcome to use those hours. I will say that in TEN years, I have never had a parent voluntarily get out of bed early to drop their kid off at daycare if they didn't need to go to work. I would address that if needed. I have one parent who drops at 6:30 and the rest around 7:30. Today none of my 7:30's showed up until 8:45. I parked the one I had on the couch with some books and enjoyed my coffee! Why would I charge someone for that???

I've had people attempt to pick up LATE, but that doesn't fly well here either.

I don't sit around and wait for anyone any more...
During the teaching season I start class at 9am. If you are not here by then, the front door will be left open, you come in, sign in, drop off your kid at the back room and leave.

I always inform parents ahead of time on a monthly calendar when we will be leaving for park play or field trips. If you arrive late and we are not here, you will have to wait until we return. I don't allow drop off/pick up to occur off site.

I require all families to inform me no later than 8am if they will be late. If they are to be here for breakfast and aren't I will charge them a $3.00 food waste fee. If they arrive after 8:30, then need to eat at home..

                        I love this!

I had a huge problem last week with a daycare parent. Drop off is suppose to be 10am and everyday last week it was closer to 12pm with no phone call or anything. I told him Friday that his wacky drop off's aren't going to fly anymore...not only are they disruptive but we can't take the kids for walks or to the park because we never know when he's going to be here. He has now opted for an 11am drop-off. Awesome!

                        And...@ Jen...

My comparison makes absolute sense! It doesn't matter if they were late today, too many parents would be under the impression that they can drop off early to make up for that time. I'm really shocked that being open 11 hours a day that parent's don't drop off at 630am regardless if they don't have to be to work until 9am just so they have time to themselves. Padding daycare doesn't work for me. Hense, contracted hours.

I'm not going to stay open til 530pm on Fridays if my last kid is only contracted until 330pm.

I have several Monday through Thursday kids. I could only imagine getting them on Fridays too if they didn't contract hours!

                        No thanks!

As for the late arrivals...It's way too much of a disruption. Contracted hours is how my daily rate is calculated. You show up late and don't call, you take a chance of us being out on a walk or at the park, etc. Not only is it rude but late arrivals disrupt the daily flow.

Sorry...but my parents just don't get out of bed early if they don't have to. It just has never happened here. Also, none of my parents have the kind of hours that get them off at 3:30...well, one does and in the 4 years that I have cared for her children, she has NEVER picked up late without asking me first. EVER.

In my opinion it doesn't make sense to say people will start showing up 24/7...jmho, but that is silly. Of course they are not, and if I let them in, that would me my fault.

Like I said, my parents all call if they aren't going to be here by 9am. I'm good with that...it works for me. If my parents were less considerate, I would certainly deal with that, but probably not by charging for it. I don't want the money, I want the behavior to cease. I have actually terminated a client for repeatedly breaking that rule. Now that I think of it, I've termed twice for it.

Thats what works for me. Actually, that is probably why people don't mess with me too much!

the only time Ive ever been upset is when it was my early family and they didnt even call. I got up at 5 and no one else got here till 8 amd and they didnt even call till 630 so I could have had 2 more hours sleep
they knew that I was opening early JUST for them and it was rude I felt.
