Wooden Toys

[Country Kids]

I have some wooden toys (blocks, Lincoln Logs, etc.) and I'm not sure how to sanitize them. Does anyone have any suggestions. I've always just sprayed them with Lisol but started wondering if there is a true way to wash and sanitize them.

My son's EI teacher that come to our house every week puts hers in the freezer overnight. If they are actually dirty she uses plain water and mild soap on a paper towel to spot clean. This unfortunately does not qualify under my license as 'sanitizing'.

I would say spray with a solution of water and distilled white vinegar, then spread out on towels in the nice hot sunshine.

I use a washcloth dipped in warm soapy water. I am not licensed though so I only answer to me.

Bleach and water solution here for me too. I just get a plastic bin and mix the solution and throw everything in for 2-5 minutes then take everything out and place them on a towel and let them air-dry overnight. The plastic parts from the lincold logs I throw into the dishwasher and run them through the sanitizer cycle.

I had a similar issue with cleaning toys. ALOT of my toys have those little holes in the bottom (little people dolls ect) so you can't put them in a tub of bleach water bc the water gets inside them. Here's what I do:
Everyday at nap, I take one bin of the toys and a bucket of soapy water and wash them.. Then I lay them on a towel and mist them with the bleach solution. I wash every toy once a week, so doing one bin or type of toy each day guarentees that every toy is clean by the end of the week.
I also get help on Fridays from my after school kids with the bigger items (little people houses, duplo blocks, larger trucks, toy kitchen ect)
They love to help me! Parents don't mind at all! Kids love to help. I give them a bucket of the soapy water and some cleaning cloths and let them go! They always get a special treat after as a thank you!
I used to use those Lysol wipes to clean things but I found they leave a residue that attracts dirt and dust, so the toys looked dirtier than before I wiped them!
Any toy that is water right (wood blocks ect) I just dump into the sink, fill with hot water, put in some bleach and let them sit for a lil bit... Drain and set on a towel to dry.

I've been wiping down with vinegar if they are sealed.

I use Lysol or Clorox disenfecting wipes for all my toys that cannot be submerged in water. I was wondering if anyone has had any success in making their own disenfecting wipes? I just started making my own diaper wipes it was getting uber expensive to buy wipes since we use them for lots of other things besides just diaper changes (quick hand and face washing etc). And it's been working pretty well..
