Is Pre-K Testing and Accountability Coming?

    Read this article and weep.

There are numerous experts who tell us that standardized tests are indicative of neither intelligence nor potential. But we are a nation that insists upon quantification -- whether we like it or not, whether it's good for us or not.

I don't even have words. When will kids be allowed to be kids?

Never. Kids will never be allowed to be kids as long as money is involved.

This might change my mind about homeschooling my own kids.

I was assured that these assessments were not intended to be administered at the Pre-K level. Rather, according to panelist Lisa Guernsey, they are meant to be given by teachers within the first month or so of kindergarten, to determine which children need more help in certain areas, including language, social/emotional and physical skills.

        No problem

        Test away

I think it's a great idea. Then we can put to rest the notion that having preK years of "developmentally appropriate curriculum" and "what curriculum do you have for my nine month old cuz I don't want her to get behind?" doesn't make a fig difference in the outcomes of the kids in any measurable testable way. (with the exception of desperately poor children and particularly poor african american males)

        It won't cuz it doesn't.

Amen sister, but then people start to think that testing is ok in kinder, so then they push onto pre-k etc. Just let it be people .
