    Late Pickup. Tell Other Parents?

I have a new interested client who would like to pay a premuim price to keep her kids at daycare later 3 days a week. I close at 5:30 and she would like to contract to pick up no later than 6. Do I tell other parents of this arrangement or leave it alone? I am afraid my other 5:30 pick up (who has been late about 3 times in the last year and right at 5:30 many times) is going to assume they can be late and/or leave their kids at daycare late often.

I have a similar situation. When I started doing the extra half hour, I did advertise it to new parents on the website. However, I didn't go out of my way to tell existing parents. In my opinion, they are clearly able to pick up by 5 (when I close) so why prolong it However, they know that in a rare situation they can talk to me about their kid staying late, so I have had 2 parents who I told about the extended situation....since they would see it anyway.::

I think it's none of her business what arrangement you have with other clients. If she questions it you can tell her that family pays a premium for later pick up and if you want to, maybe you can offer her the same option?

I would say she has contracted hours and your contracted hours are different. Would like you change your contracted hours to later pick up? There is a fee for that.

I had a similar situation, and handled it as a "policy change" that I put out in writing for all of my clients.

Basically I stated that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, daycare would be open until 6pm. The fee for extended care - ANY time between 5:30-6:00pm is $5/child. (So even if someone was just a few minutes past 5:30 picking up, it would still be $5). I figured that if I was working for one family that extra 1/2 hour, I would open it up to all of my clients and make some extra $ doing so

Maybe putting it out to all of your dcps at the same time - stated as a policy- would let them all know that you are willing to work longer days, but expect to be paid for it.

I agree that if your regular 5:30 pick ups see that there are children there longer, they might become a little more lax in picking up on time.

            Good luck!
