I know most of you may disagree (and maybe I've just had good luck), but I love school age children! They are more likely to follow directions, they are super helpful, and there are so many fun activities I can do with them! I would say the only downside is that they don't nap. Am I crazy or just lucky to have good ones?

I think you're lucky to have good onesI've never had one willing to help. In fact, when I've given them jobs it's been a chore to get them to follow through. And the ones I have had do NOT follow directions .... I prefer my toddlers anyday

I think you're lucky as well. I used to take school-agers but they caused trouble for me and the younger kids in my care. I cater to infants, toddlers & preschoolers w/my toys, games, crafts, activities, etc. Its hard enough at times to have the age span of infant thru 5 yrs old, and keep them all happy & getting along. The older ones were breaking the rules & being a bad influence on the little ones. I believe school-agers are happier when they're with peers their own age, like summer camp thats offered in many public school districts. They can spend time with familiar faces (from school) & go on field trips, etc. Many of my parents were hesitant to take their older kids elsewhere when the time came, but quickly realized it was the best thing for them. I do know of some providers who just take in school-agers, which if this is your preference, would probably work out very well too.- Flag
