How Far In Advance To You Give Parents If You Are Taking A Personal Day?

Since I put the days back in the personal days bank that I had tried to used when my nephew died, I think i am going to use a couple soon to go do something fun with my kids. I am having a rough time and am feeling really taken advantage of by my daycare parents, so I feel like I need a long weekend or something soon. So how long of a notice do you give parents?

I only require my parents to give me their schedules a week in advance so I try to give them a weeks notice but if I can, I will give as much advance notice as possible.

I'd give at least 2 weeks.

I give 12 months, but if I was really stressed and needed a day I would tell them the truth and take it with 24-36 hour notice.

I did once for a funeral and a day of respite following months of my direct, hands on, patient care of a terminally ill patient. The last few days become very emotionally/physically difficult and my families knew it was coming.

The truth has really worked great with my crew, but I am in a very small town outside a major city so we keep pretty close ties on one another.

If you can, go with 2 weeks notice.

Also, be prepared for them to fight you on pay...even mine did. I was hurt, but realized that is how it goes these days.
        - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

A weeks notice usually unless something comes up really last minute. My contract states that I give as much notice as possible but they should have back up daycare option ready in case I'm unable to do so.

And don't forget they have to find their own alternate care while you have your day. (I believe you were the one that had found an alternate for them that they didn't pay right?)
