I have a two provider in home daycare. (
We have a few teachers families and 2 families with 3+ school age children (in addition to their 1 toddler we watch full time) we allow them all to take the summers "off" so they only come 1 to 2 days a week. Some even just two mornings a week.
Yes, our income goes down but we look at it as a 'Summer break'. It has really worked out well bc my partener has a family and needs lots of time off and I don't get too overwelmed bc I have low numbers.
I planned to take my first vacation in our 7 years open. A 10 day road-trip west. I didn't inform any of the parents since my patrner would take over full time for the week and there would be no distruption in care.
When I recieved the sched for everyones summer care they ALL (not even just the school teachers kids EVERYONE!!) added extra days the week I am going to be gone!!!!!!!!!
It has always been our 'thing" that we are ALWAYS AVAILBLE. I can't blame the parents they have always been allowed to add days as long as we have room and they all know in the summer we always have room....so this has always been allowed. Of course all of the reasons they need extra care are work not play related. We ONLY close on National holidays and never for personal reasons. We have made this work for 7 years and I am not about to make the parents miss work or find a back up. I will pay an assistant and hope the week doesnt stress my partner out too much (sometimes an assistant can be of little help and they just get in the way)
I should have sent out a letter in Feb when I planned the trip that no extra hours or days would be allowed July XX to XX, but that goes against our policy.
I guess this is just a rant and there is nothing I can do about it it is just making the planning of my vacation very stressfull worring about work while I am gone was not the plan but I know I will feel guilty being gone durring our busiest week.
My first vacation in 7 years and I really feel like canceling.
