    For My Food Program People

I have a girl who usually eats breakfast at home but 1/2 the time she'll eat again with us. I always have to buy/make enough food to assume that she may eat. When it comes to claiming her for the food program, I want to claim everyday since I have to buy that much food. But, I don't want to be shady about it, since sometimes she doesn't actually eat it. What are your opinions?

Why is she eating at your house sometimes and at home sometimes? It's one or the other here, period.

if you don't serve it dont claim it... Also if you don't make it then it is not wasted.

I would also ask the parents to inform you by a certain time if their child will be attending breakfast or not.

I have in my rules that if the child is expected to be at breakfast that will not be, that they must inform me by 8am. If they fail to notify me, there will be a $4.50 food waste charge....

Does she get to daycare in time to be served the meal? I serve all kids all meals even if they "have already eaten at home". I usually already have the meal prepared and the table set (plates, milk poured etc) by the time they arrive and say they already ate.

Explain to the mom that you are planning on feeding her and have prepped enough food so you would prefer it not go to waste. Also, tell her if you FP lady was to show up and she was not eating on a particular day b/c she already ate at home it would look bad on you.

She's always here in time for breakfast so I don't actually cook the extra waffles (for example) when she says she already ate. Her mom likes to eat breakfast with her at home but sometimes the morning gets rushed and it doesn't happen. I don't mind the inconsistency in schedule because, like I said, I don't literally cook the food and then waste it. I always know that morning (just not while I'm shopping the weekend before).

I guess I'll just claim the days she eats.

Wait, my fp lady says if you offer them the food you can claim the meal EVEN IF THEY DONT EAT IT. Call your fp person and ask. Mine is really nice. She says we have to have the plate ready but they don't have to eat it. So offer the first plate to the child who already ate and if she refuses give it to the next kid at the table. No wasted food. My Fp lady has seen me do this many times. Legal accodring to my lady. If the kid changes her mind and says, "wait, yea I will have that" you have to have enough prepped for her to have one also.

Same here with PP- if it is offered it can be claimed. (Obviously don't take advantage which would be pretty easy, .)

Yep, here too. As long as you serve it you can claim it. It's your job to offer it, not to make them eat.

How to apply for a "food program"?

I am interested to know how to apply, or become eligible for food assistanc? I am new to the daycare world and am trying to inquire as much info/adivce about starting my own facility! Open for anything! Thanks.

All the programs pay the same as the amounts are regulated by the fed gov. Do you know any local providers? They can give you the ins and outs of the best service provider. Basically outside companies service the program for the usda. We have a number in our area and some are easier to work with than others. I would talk to the close providers, they can give you an idea of who to go with. Specifically, my local food program lady the one who comes and checks on you and makes sure you are regulated is VERY NICE. Other people who have other service providers say they aren't so lucky.

All you have to do is call the one you are interested in and get signed up. They will come out and give you the info and get you started. I belive you must be licensed though as it is not for non-lic providers.
