    Ideas For DCB Send Off?

I have a 5 year old DCB that has been with me for a year and a half and is now leaving to explore sports camp before beginning kindergarten next fall. He's had behavior issues (lack of impulse control, hitting me and other kids, extreme reactions) from day 1 and mom is hoping this will help. His younger brother will continue to be in my care.

I really wasn't planning on anything other then having the kids make ice-cream sundaes as a treat and a send off for him. This is what I did for the summer kids at the end of last summer. Now I'm starting to feel a little bad I'm not doing something more.

What do you all think? Would you do something more? I'm worried that my relief of him leaving is depriving him of a warm send off. Besides my seasonal "summer kids", this is the first child to leave my care. I'll still see him for school year vacations.

    Thanks for your help!

I think this totally acceptable! The kids always love a special treat and I typically don't do anything more than that myself.

Since he is going to sports camp I'd probably get him a new ball (of his favorite sort) and have a little "Good Bye" party at afternoon snack on his last day. The goal would be to get him excited about leaving, not to miss you.

Be prepared that she may want to bring him back in a couple weeks. I don't know many camps that will put up with those issues for more than a few minutes...YKWIM?

I hope you fill that slot fast.

I have the same situation 5yr old dcb leaving for kinder and I'm keeping the younger brother.

I made a photobook on Shutterfly for him and am going to print up a little diploma.

We're having cupcakes on Friday to celebrate.

I usually make cupcakes and I make a collage of the photos I took while DCK was in my care and send that home with them.

You can make them for cheap at walmart.com. Depending if you want the 1 hour photo and how big, they're anywhere from 19 cents to about $3.00.
