I Finally Termed My Nightmare Family

This family seemed great in the beginning. They worked 9-5, seemed like good parents. Weeeeeell, not so much. A few weeks after they enrolled, a few things changed, and they just got flakier and more inconsiderate every day.

To start with, the kids enrolled during the school year. Mom knew I had to leave at a certain time to get her kids and mine to school. There were several days that she wasn't here by the time I had to leave, but was here tapping her foot in my driveway when I got back to the house.

There were also several days when I waited for her until the last minute, and then left without her kids, only to get a text in the afternoon or the evening that the kids weren't showing up at all that day because dad had taken the day off work. She would always try to slip in a comment about how "I won't be charged for today, right?" WRONG. This isn't the Burger King Drivethrough.

She has a child with health issues and a learning disability and a stepchild with some severe behavioral issues. Of course none of this was disclosed upon enrollment. Also, she said she got along great with the stepkids' biomom. That was NOT the story I got from biomom.

Mom liked to send latenight texts to complain about one little thing or another when she had a stressful day and needed to blow off some steam. I finally just stopped responding to these texts and started telling her that she would have to take this up with me during my work hours, and that she couldn't just intrude on my family time with some minutia every few nights.

The kicker was when this family, who already lived paycheck to paycheck, bought a house. They had gone from paying once a week to paying once a month, and were constantly trying to negotiate for some kind of a price break. Mom would often employ the avoidance technique of sending dad to pickup kids on payday without the checkbook. Oops!

So long story short, they buy the house and can't/won't afford daycare, so they get family to help them out for about 10 days, meanwhile not calling and not showing up. I collected my last payment and termed them immedietely with no notice. I have since had the best week I can remember in about 6 months. Oh, and yes, I have warned several of my acquaintances who provide home daycare that I would NOT recommend working for this family. Good luck to them, and good riddance.

    Good for you!

I wish there was a good warning system for providers to check before accepting a family.

      Me too.

I wish there was too. I got the just after just a few weeks of working for her that their previous provider had termed short notice or no notice just to be rid of the hassle too. I pity the next provider they get.
