    Interesting Party Fare

I was at my grandsons' end of the year preschool party. This was the food available for the kids to choose from..........(The kids were allowed to choose what they wanted.)

fresh veggies and dip (provided by me)
    watermelon
    fruit salad
meat or cheese sandwiches (1 slice luncheon meat or 1 slice Kraft cheese)
yummy fried rice - veggies and cabbage
    mini corndogs
    mini hotdogs
    pizza pockets
    chicken nuggets
    chips
    cheetos
    a veggie type chip
    Oreo cookies
    frosted cookies
    brownies
    M&Ms cookies
    chocolate cupcakes

Now, the kids who chose veggies and fruit right away, chose a sandwich and fewer items from the dessert table. Those that didn't pick the veggies and fruits, chose more dessert items.

Mine were allowed 1 dessert item, not 1 of each. (Mean Grandma who has to deal with them the rest of the day.)

most of that sounds pretty gross but typical. my kids go to parties all the time and usually at least go 50/50 on the veggies and other healthy options. never been so proud

wow thats a lot of processed junk food....minus the veggies and fruits...

I see that at most kids parties, which I think is ok. I don't allow for that type of food here, so the only way my kids are going to get any of that type of food is if they go to some elses house....

I thought it was interesting that the kids who chose the healthy food, chose less of the desserts.

This is SO true. When you offer a really healthy diet you will find that the treats aren't that important to the kids. They like treats but they don't gobble them down like they gobble healthy food.
