12x12 Sandbox!

My FIL came over and built me a 12x12 sandbox with the cutest little seats on the corners and everything I can't wait to get my sand delivery tomorrow and see what they think! Is there any way to be sure kitties won't come to visit our king size litter box? I might go buy a tarp....

We have one under our wooden swingset and haven't had a problem. I would buy a tarp for atleast when there is going to be a big rain. Ours getting really mushy if it rains alot and we forget to cover it.

i finally dug a 10x10 sandpit this summer. we had two good size sandboxes, but they are never big enough....thats where the kiddos always want to be...at the same time. we are LOVING the bigger pit. i do throw a tarp over it, and weigh it down with the tonka toys. (regs here say it HAS to be covered)

so jealous! Next year we should be able to turn our large raised garden bed (not sure of the dimensions, but it's BIG) into a nice big sandpit. I can't wait!

We haven't ever covered our sandbox, though it should be. Never had an issue with cats as our dog is very unkitty friendly. With that being said, I wish I would have covered it. If you cover it at the end of the day when you are done playing, you won't get as many twigs, leaves and other random things in it. Our's next to our tree and the amount of little twigs and limbs in it is crazy. A tarp would definately be an easy, economical way to cover it!

i had to chuckle......ours is FULL of leaves, twigs, rocks, pinecones, wood scraps, and shiny little do-dads....not from the wind either, but from the kiddos. i gave up trying to keep it seperate....they just love to add all the loose parts to the sandpit. makes for interesting "soup" and "cupcake" concoctions

The kids are going to love it! My sandbox, also huge, is the most played in thing in my yard. We have never covered ours either... we do put a tent over it to keep the sun off the sand and the kids when they are playing.

We purposely take the hose to ours to get the sand goopy and mushy... wet sand is tons of fun... yes, messy, but the experience is worth it

last year dh ordered way too much sand to build the above ground pool (he didn't read the instructions) so I had tonnes of sand left over, omg it was the best. The kids loved it so much, even my own children would just sit and play for hours in it. I found so many leaves and twigs and stuff that they kids built. So I say to dh if he can build me a really big one and he said no, too bad I know how to use power tools so I will be building one myself. Out of all the toys i have the sand pit is their favorite.

Our state regs require a cover and dh built a frame out of conduit and attached a tarp with band ties.
