    I Just Can’t Win!

I have 5 families in care, 3 of them drop off between 7am and 8:30am.
Except two families. One of them is 8:30 on every day except Monday and Friday, then they drop off at 6am. The other family is 8:30am on Monday and Friday, and 6 am on the other days. Complete opposite, so I have at least one child every day at 6am.

Today... both families come in with a change of schedule. The one family says they will be 8:30 every day from now on! Great! No more early every day. The other says they will be 6am every day, instead of just three times a week!

Are you serious? If I didnt know better I would think they are doing it on purpose!

How frustrating. Too bad they both can't come at 8:30.

I had major burn out doing 6am. I dont miss it anymore at all. I would tell the everyday 6am family that you cant do it. Tell them you dont have the option to meet thier schedule right now.
how long do you stay open adn how long haev you been getting up this early?

I did 6am for over a year for ONE family with ONE child. It got old really fast.

The mom wasn't the type to be on time, if she was staying home, I wouldn't find out ahead of time so I was up everyday waiting on this child.

Then the mom switched to a 7am schedule...thank goodness! My open time is 7am everyday now. (I'm still up at 6am regardless but it's nice to have an hour to myself every morning.)

I am open 6am to 5pm. I've always worked those hours, 5 years now. Unfortunately where I work you pretty much have to. I work on a military base, and some of the parents have to get up early to PT (physical training), so they need the early hours. Plus we live in an area that lots of people commute to a nearby larger city, so they have to drop off that early to commute into the city.
The early families pick up by 3:30 or 4, but then I have ones that drop of at 8:30, and dont pick up until 5. I just wish I could get one way or the other.

I dont mind the early so much, my hubby gets up early too, but I absolutely do not work past 5pm. I would prefer 4, but am flexible to 5.

I know what you mean! I have a mixture of DCPs that work locally and some that have to commute. Which means kids start arriving at 6 and get picked up at 6 sometimes later. It's such a LONG DAY! By the time all the kids got picked up last night and ate dinner...there was just enough time to do a short bike ride with my own kids before baths and bed. There just aren't enough hours in the day sometimes

omgosh, I do the same thing for the same reason. I love the one hour of quiet time before the crazies wake.

I would never offer 6 AM. I have had parents ask and although I hesitate, I do always say no. My opening is 7:30 and thats about all I can handle. I have my two to get ready plus a newborn to nurse and get ready so I am already up way earlier than any daycare parent.
