So one of my DCB arrived this morning with a 99.0 temp. I took the temp because he was acting weird... I thought should I call parents even though its not high, becuase in a few hours I think it will be?
1 more point and he would be headed home, I send home at 100. I would probably text the DCM just to inform her of what the temp is and the possibility of being sent home. What is your contracted temp for sending home? I hope he wasn't medicated to bring it down for drop off. Good luck!!
I had a little boy (3yr old) last week that had a 99.3 all day. I checked right after drop off b/c he felt high and assummed he might spike higher later. Never did. I let him play in his own room just in case and checked every 30 min or so but nothing ever came of it. I mentioned it to mom but he was perfectly normal the next day and the days after. I was sort of hoping he would go home to ease the day but didn't work that way.

... I know what you mean. its hard to let it go. YOu don't want to mingle the child in with the group just in case the child is sick and spreads it to the rest of them.
I just checked the temp and its actually gone down. the child went straight to sleep after breakfast. he almost passed out at the table and is still sleeping now.....
So the DCK had been running very mild fever all day 99.0-99.9 all day. I did send the parents a pic of the thermostat and a heads up that if fever goes up any more they will need to pick up.
So its only 2:30 here and the fever has not gone past 99.9, but child has cough and runny nose.
I am feeling like I would like to exclude the child from care tomorrow. He has done nothing but sleep all day today and has hardly eaten anything at all.
Both of the parents did not respond to my text message, which upset me a little. Makes me wonder if they gave a dose of meds this morning and sent child knowing he was sick..
I remember YEARS ago at my former center this baby, 9 months old, was running a fever all weekend. Mom came in on a Monday. The director was there. Mom TOLD us she was running a high fever all weekend but didn't give her any medicine. You could just see that this baby was sick. I took her temp. It was 100.3. TX Minimum Standards state at 100.4 a child must be removed. The director told the mother this. Mom was like..."umm well I don't know. I do need to work". The director said..."well I can't MAKE you take her since it is below the 100.4 but once it reaches 100.4 she does need to be picked up". Mom again..."umm well...I will call on and off and if she does run a fever there is Tylenol in her bag" The director "Yes-we can give her the Tylenol but you STILL have to pick her up regardless". Mom "well I will call and check on her all day".
Long story short that temp was 100.3 all day long. Oh mom did call. ONCE. On her lunch break as she was heading back TO work. Some people shouldn't have children.
I learned my lesson about calling to give the parents a "heads up" with a temp just over 99.
I was watching a 4 month old; clear snot running every few minutes, coughing, fussy, just not feeling well. His temp was 99.5. I called dcm to let her know he was not feeling well and that he was starting to get a fever. She said "Give him his tylenol. It's teething." I told her he was not having any signs of teething, no drooling, chewing on fingers, hands in mouth, etc... Also told her about his super runny nose, coughing, and irratibility. She insisted it was teething and that I give him tylenol for it. I refused b/c I told her it would just be masking his fever/illness.
I got a call from her 30 minutes later stating that she called the doctor, and the doctor actually faxed me a note stating that his fever was due to teething and he needs tylenol to provide relief. My hands were tied at that point.
Needless to say I have since added to my contract that my illness policy overrides any doctor's note. And I no longer call to give the "heads up" about a low fever. I wait until the fever is excludable.
