    Sick policy

Hi, What are your sick policies when it comes to vomitting/spitting up? DCG is 1 1/2 and just spit up/vomitted on the couch. I tried to get ahold of mom to let her know, but no answer yet. Anyway-before I talk to her, do you guys make them come pick up their kids if they've puked once? Or do you wait to see if the child will do it again? It was just a little bit, but she is older and isn't one to spit up. Anyway...thoughts?

Spit up is one thing. Vomit is another. If this is odd for the child and she didn't just gag and then spit up, then the parent should come get her.

      Spit up or throw up?
In my house any vomit gets temp check and a call placed to parents for pick up. If I can't reach mom I call whoever is next on the list.
I also have a time fee. After call is placed for pickup child must be picked up within one hour. After one hour the fee is $1.00 per min until the child is picked up.

I agree there is a difference between spit-up and vomiting. I cannot handle vomiting; even with my own kids. Here is part of what my contract says:
I have the right to refuse to care for a sick child. If your child develops any of the above symptoms while in my care, or any other symptoms NOT listed above that cause great concern, you or your alternate will be required to pick up your child immediately. If the child is not picked up within an hour of my calling a $5.00 for every 15minutes or portion there of charge may be assessed. If I have to call a parent to pick up a child that has been dropped off for care to ill to participate in the day the child will also be required to stay at home the following day. Your child may return to care 24 hours AFTER symptoms of illness end.
If the parent is not here within the hour I will also start calling their emergency contacts.

I'm rather strict with my sick policy, but have only termed once over it.
Give a little love to a child, and you get a great deal back.

I follow the CDC Guidlines for Childcare Exclusion.

Here are a couple online examples:

This is a well written policy! I have something similar except I give mom or dad 15 min to respond to me when calling and If they dont respond I start calling alternates.

It was odd, the amount wasn't a great deal which is why I say 'spit up'...but was enough for me. It was a mixture between spit up and vomit if that makes sense. It was partially breakfast...yuck. Anyway, it's out of the norm for this child which is why I am concerned. If it were an infant, I'd think nothing of it...but a toddler doesnt' usually 'spit up' for no reason...at least none of the ones I've had do.

I would definately keep trying each of the parents, if you can't reach them, call work #'s and then emergency contact #'s one by one, til you reach one of them. They need to pick up immediately!!
