How Many Of You Transport Daycare Children On A Daily Basis - Poll

I am just curious (and maybe Michael will put up a poll) how many of you transport daycare children on a daily basis?

I don't mean the occassional field trip or errand but providers who are responsible for dropping off and picking up daycare kids at preschool, bus stops and/or other extra curricular activities every day. Also are you required to have any additional insurance coverage because of this?

For me, I know I can transport kids IF I have a higher coverage policy but I choose NOT to ever transport children because I really just do not want the liability that comes with it. For field trips and stuff, we hire a local bus company and use that or else our field trips are done on foot.

I always had school aged kids to transport.

Now, I pick up the 4 yo from preschool 2 days a week and the 5 yo from k, 1 day a week.

I transport my own daughter to preschool every day and have DCKs in the car with me. 3x a week I have a casual care dck I bring to school. About 2-3x month I also pick her up and she stays with me. But today was the last day for them all so, we will not being leaving the house daily. On Tuesdays I bring my son to occupational and speech therapy at an outpatient facility. Everyone goes with me. I just added to personal injury coverage to my house and vehicle. No separate policy. It's probably not enough.

just bumping this up. Curious as to how may transport. For those of you that do, do you think it encourages people to use your program vs another that does not offer transportation?

I do not transport unless there is an emergency that I have to get my group to a shelter (or take them home after a parent was in a car accident and without wheels.

My DCP's do not want their kids to leave the property. It would be a huge strike against me.

I had to change my opening schedule so I could take my kids to school before opening for the day.
            - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I don't have the extra coverage on my insurance to transport, so I don't ever transport.

I drive a truck it has four doors. But it is not a bus so I never travel in my own car.

i transport every day to the bus stop, and we go on field trips and to the park all the time. i couldnt imagine being stuck in this house 24/7-365 i'd go out of my mind!!!

my liability insurance covers transporting in my car.

field trips and the fact that i will do the bus thing is a huge perk for my business.

I am less than 1 block from the school so I don't have a reason to pick up at school. I do not have a vehicle large enough to bring everyone anywhere so unfortunately we don't even go on field trips.

I don't have to this year, but have pretty much every other year-either bringing and picking up my own kids to/from school (we don't have buses) or driving dkks to/from prek.
It's a huge relief to not have to do any driving this year!

I don't yet (I don't do field trips or outings), but when my almost 4 year old starts pre-school in Aug, I will have to pack up the whole bunch and take her!!! I am nervous!! I think there will be a teacher at a door so I won't have to leave the car (plan to take her first day off work to get the hang of it) but still will need to take the group when I transport her to school. Any tips from those of you that do this already would be appreciated!

Depends on the ages of your DCK. Last year we dropped off and picked up my DD from preschool 3 days a week. I can fit 5 total in my Suburban. I'm really good at installing carseats. LOL. I own my own so I know how they work and can use them properly. Get a nice umbrella stroller. I also used my Baby Bjorn when I had 2 little ones. 2's and up help push the stroller or on lighter days, held hands with DD or I. Good luck. It's nice to not have to do it this year.

Oh, I did have some crazy pick ups some Wednesdays, so another Mommy would walk my DD out to me. She was often a little late, but so helpful
