    Balancing a Schedule

I need help with setting up a reasonable schedule that is suitable for infants toddlers and preschoolers. I am open from 6-6. How are you guys fitting in preschool time with the infants?

I wasn't suggesting teaching preschool to infants, I was hoping to gain insight on how you focus on teaching the other children with the demand having younger children such as infants places on you. I have been reading the threads here for a while now and I am truly impressed with how knowledgeable you are and I enjoy hearing and learning from the ideas you have.

I find fitting in preschool time with my preschoolers very easy with my schedule. I have two infants, a 3 month old and a 9 month old and in the mornings they are both sleeping when I do preschool with my 3's. I have my toddlers engaged in free-play and besides crazy Monday's, my schedule works out great for everyone.

How many infants do you have? If you have just one it's a piece of cake; Schedule preschool time during their morning or afternoon naptime. If you have two infants, your best bet would attempt to schedule the naps to coincide in the morning. If that's not possible depending on the age of the infants, I would schedule preschool time when one of the infants is sleeping, and I would rotate the other infant in the bouncer, exersaucer, swing or bumbo with suction toys on the tray. I do a 10 minute rotation in each station for the infant so they don't get bored. I have found this works great, also as my preschoolers don't last longer than 40 minutes of preschool time and my infants don't last any longer than that either.

Good luck. I think finding a good rotation and balancing schedule with ages ranging so differently takes some work and tweaking, but it is very easy once grasped. Everyone will become adjusted with the schedule.

I don't teach preschool, as I am not a teacher and don't want that responsibility (which I let parents know) but I do learning activities, letters, numbers, arts and crafts, a few days a week unless we are outside all day or something. Once an infant is 4 months or so I work on getting them on my nap schedule (9-1030 am for babies as well as afternoon with everyone) and do learning stuff with the toddlers during that time. If the infant is very young I do what pp mentioned, bouncer seat, or on the floor with toys around.

I know it seems that hardly anyone is answering, it is just a "learned over time" kind of question.

Really, It is one of those things that we have to adapt to the ages of the kids currently enrolled then hope for luck. ::

Your meal times, naptimes, drop-off's and pick-up's have to be factored in as well. Without having a bunch of personal information from you it is kindof hard to answer, YKWIM?

Here is an older thread that may give you some examples, though...

Daycare Center and Family Home owners, Directors, Operators and Assistants should post and ask questions here.
            - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I agree that it's a learned over time thing. I'm not a teacher either but I work the learning in around naps of the younger ones. The only scheduled things I have are meals, naps and outside time. The rest is worked in.
