    Policy

And, yes I too have policies, and I am VERY STRICT on my sick policy, however I am not the kind of person to change something already agreed upon right in the middle of something happening. Thats like letting someone order a meal listed on your menu at one price then billing them 2x as much and telling them "too bad- my business- my rules". Wouldn't last around here.
But if you have never had encountered HFMD before in your daycare, then how would you know to have it in your policy already? I never had heard of it until this outbreak. If I had EVERY illness in my policy that a child couldn't come to daycare with, then it would be 50 pages long. Now I've had this outbreak and so the policy came out.

Its funny - the child who was diagnosed with it first - her dr wrote a dr's note saying that she couldnt return to daycare for 7 days... the other child's dr wrote a note stating that he could return the next day. Ultimately its not up to the doctor or anyone else - but ME... since its my daycare. I know if I was one of the daycare parents, I would be very upset to drop my baby off at daycare where another child has blisters & sores on their face when its still very contagious.

Also not sure where you got the idea that I "changed something already agreed upon right in the middle of something happening". I NEVER agreed that children could come to daycare with ANY contagious illness. My policy for the past 6 years has stated that "No child can come to daycare with any type of contagious illness and that each contagious illness would be addressed according to the type of illness when it occurs". So this disgusting HFMD occurred, and I had to enforce a policy for that particular illness. Maybe the HFMD you had in your daycare was a mild case... unfortunately some are not.

I personally wouldn't allow a child in care with this condition and as they came up with it out the door they would go until all blisters are dried up and gone. You definetly know they couldn't go to a center with this so why would they be able to go to an in home family childcare.
Thank you... Nice to see that others would do the same thing in regards to not letting a child come with blisters on them.

ditto regardless of what a doc says, my house, my rules... I think one would be silly to allow any child into their home with any contagious conditions of any kind. Our job is to protect these kids....

Yes this is exactly why YOU have to decide.

HFM is extremely painful too. It's not just that it's highly contagious.
