    Ticks

    oops...accidently posted this on another thread...guess I didn't have my morning coffee yet .
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Anyone else having issues with ticks?? My kids have gotten them a couple times already this last two weeks. One of my DC kids got one the other day. We are going on lots of walks on the trails...I'm thinking that's the cause. Also, may have been from the backyard. NEVER had ticks on my kids before. Yuck!

      yuck! I HIGHLY recommend using bug repellant if you are going on walks along trails. Ticks can cause disease. Yuck.

      As for your yard, I would treat the lawn and shrubbery.....yuck. Sorry you have to deal with that

        Wearing light colored clothing can help you spot them before they start to **** (literally). When we go on walks if I know we will be in tall grasses, I have the kiddos put on a pair of my husbands tall socks (really tall on kids). They all think they are hilarious and I can see one of them before it has the opportunity to get on the skin.

        I am not sure where you are located, but please be aware of deer ticks - much smaller in size than normal ticks. These are no good!

        Also, I would let your parents know the kids have been on nature walks and you have seen some ticks. They can then be aware to look for them when bathing the kiddos.

              My son had a deer tick embedded in the top part of his ear (inside the cartilage curl) last weekend. Watching him like a hawk, so far no symptoms.

              In the summer I use Repel insect repellent. It says it repels ticks on the can, it's green, but I don't remember which version it is. I need to pick some more up this weekend. I only spray it on clothing, not on their skin. (Just to be safe)
              Give a little love to a child, and you get a great deal back.

                blergh....ticks. ::shudder::

                daycare...you are lucky to have never heard of them before. They're nasty. And I am lucky enough to live where deer ticks are rare. We just have the larger ticks.

                Ugh, now I feel all creepy-crawly just having read this.
                Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

                  Yep, we're in MD, and have a ton. I dont do much other than informed my parents to check each night at bedtime. We live right next to the woods, and are outside a lot. If we are in the tall grass and wooded area I check everyone when we come back in. I dont use sprays due to allergies. Most dont work unless they have deet, and I'm afraid to use that on the kids. So we are just careful to check for them.
