I have a welcome letter on the first page of my policy manual. It just gives information about me, my education, experience, and my family. Then it talks about how excited I am to work with their family and share my days with their child. I end it with my various contact information.
I don't do a welcome letter exactly, but I do give a little bag of Hershey's Hugs and Kisses to the parent that drops off the first day - along with a little poem about how their child will be getting "hugs and kisses" too:-))
I do a welcome letter to the child (with information that is really for the parents like supplies to bring and such) and mail it to them at their house if there is time or I drop it off for them so they get mail.
I also do a welcome sign in the entryway when we have a new child starting and I put a card for the parents in their cubby at the end of the day thanking them for joining us.
I also will typically text or email pictures to the parents during nap that first day to let them know how the day is going for their child.
