Infants and Sunscreen

I had a dc parent tell me that you are not supposed to put sun screen on infants under 6 months. I tried to find some information about that on aap but found nothing saying that they should not use it.

Is this common knowledge and I just never knew? Why is it bad for them?

yes, i think it says it on the bottle. I didn't to my daughter till after 6 months in case he skin was sensitive to it.

Some sunscreens you can, mostly just the natual ones that are kind of expensive. BUT one main concern is really having a baby outside for long periods of time anyways. Keep them in the shade, and well hydrated, make sure they aren't too hot. How about a rash guard shirt? That is a really good option.

The doctors and health consultants here advise no sunscreen for under 6 months and then from 6-12 months to apply it but wash their skin off with a washcloth and warm, soapy water to wipe away and residuals that may still be on their skin.

They also advise that under 12 months are in mostly shade when outside.

It's all because their skin is just too new to be exposed to all that.

There is so many chemicals and stuff in sunblock, I been checking through all of the "natural" stuff and so far I came across one that looks good its at sweetsationtherapy.com...no this is not an ad, but its supposedlt paraben free and so on I plan on buying a big one and using it on the kids
