When we first got our phone when I was teenager it was party line!!! We completely accepted that we had to wait if our neighbor was talking on the line!!!! Now we all carry a personal phone in our pockets!! That was science fiction when I was kid! I remember walking up the road with my dad...to the local phone booth to make calls before we had one in the house......

eewww speaking of pay phone... I guess growing up I never stopped to think how dirty pay phones were. Well back at easter I flew hom to the parents for a visit. Well silly me forgot to charge my cell so I had to go old fashion and use the pay phone to call my hubby to pick me up. First off it was $1.25 to place a local call. WTH what happened to the 10 cent phone call...(ok now I aging myself) I didnt have the $1.25 in coins so I had to use my debit card...It cost me $5.00 to call my hubby....OMG the worst part of it was teh condition of the phone.....OMG I thought I was going to vomit. It was so nasty dirty. I had to go to the bathroom and wash my hands right after using it......
Now I sound like that video.....eewww I had to use a public phone....

Lol I LOVED THAT!!! And yes it's true. My hunny said he read somewhere about how this generation of kids will not remember or know things like rotary phones or corded phones for that matter, VCR's and VHS tapes, 8-track players, cassette tapes, floppy ****s, portable CD players, etc.

My 6yo DD FREAKS out when I put a show on for her thats playing on real time TV and not recorded on the DVR because she can't fast forward through the commercials and complains that our flip-down DVD player in our truck takes too long to load (it takes no more than 20 seconds). I mean really? Lol he hit it right on the money.

My 13 year old asked me mom how did you go anywhere without grandma when you were growing up without having a cell phone?

I told her easy.....My mom would tell me before hand where I needed to be and at what time I needed to be there so she could pick me up. AND if I was not there she would beat my butt....

We have become so spolied......this generation of kids will never know how good they have it....

On another note, its kind of sad how we have gotten so lazy. No scuh thing as prior plans and commitment....its call me or text me when your ready or done....

They will when they become parents and get to be on the other side of things. My oldest daughter had more than I did growing up but she now has 4 kids from about 2 months to 7 years old. An Xbox, Wii, 2 DS's, A CELL PHONE!! and lots of games for all. Of course all of these things didn't exist when I was a kid. I had to use my imagination, play outside with whatever was there. But them; there was no microwaves, no cable or satellite tv, no 300 tv channels to watch (we got 4 channels) no cordless phones, no remote controls, the dishwasher was the lady of the house, no coffee makers and so on. I guess all generations have gotten something out of progress.

Imagine living without a mircowave or cordless phone (or cell phone) now! The generations of old should be commended for doing so much with so little, yet family life was better then than today.
