Manners

I hope this link works. I found this article on Yahoo. My kids have great manners and I'm so proud of them for that. However, DS has had an attitude lately, so I'm going to print this out for him to read...things always go over better when Mom isn't the one saying it :: Too bad many adults need to be reminded of these basic manners! Might be a good hand out for some parents

I would like to add one to go with #11. When answering the phone say "hello". Then say, "just a moment please while I get "whoever" or "I''m sorry "whoever" isn't available, may I take a message".

If you are going to allow your child to answer the phone, please teach them how to do it properly. My pet peeve is getting the 3rd degree from a child on the phone - who are you (I just told you), what do you want (I just asked to speak to your parent), why (because I do).

I so agree! Thanks for the link. I was just having this conversation with one of my dc parents last night ~ how kids are not taught to have manners these days.

Case in point: I went to an academic awards banquet last week; high school seniors were awarded various amounts of scholarships from the Rotary Club. Out of the 25 kids who received scholarships only five, FIVE, said 'Thank You' for the money they received. I was really disappointed in that.

Thank goodness three of the five were my daughter and two of my former girl scouts ~ I guess all those years of harping on them helped! ::

This reminded me of a friend I had in middle school. If I called her house and said "Is Jill there?" Her mom would say yes and hang up! We were supose to say, "May I please speak with Jill?" This was also a family who used two glasses at the table (one for milk and one for water) and several pieces of silverware. I always felt as though I was at a fancy restraurant when at their house. I once got "grounded" from being there for a week because I used a butter knife for jelly. LOL!!

Um, I doubt Jill owns silverware right now, let alone a jelly knife. I lost track of her after she got heavily into drugs and alcohol shortly after high school (Gee, I wonder why?!?) LOL! I know, not really funny but she did get into all that stuff and has been homeless on and off and has all sorts of weird issues so I am not friends with her any longer.

i really like the hanging up the phone idea!
i hate when you phone someones house or they phone yours, and they have no phone etiquette

my SisIL lived here with us for a long time, on and off, and phone calls non stop all hours of the night.....that's no no #1

then i'd get calls "k***X?" me: "no she is not home right now, can i take a message?" caller: "no" click......
seriously? you are calling MY house!
i actually told a few of her friends never to call here again.

or i HATE people who chew while on the phone.

I suppose the cycle is coming around again huh? ..or should I say "eh?"

Depending on where you are in Canada, I suppose should be careful because I am pretty close...don't want you showing up unannounced or worse yet calling me at all hours of the night!! LOL!!!

I am about 3 hours south of the Canadian border. So I am really not that far away. We have igloos here too! :: LOL! I have a thick skin too and take everything pretty light heartedly as well (thanks to having 4 brothers). I love bantering with like folk!
