Free Use of Kleenex

This may sound petty to some, but it drives me nuts. Do you let your dc kids have free use to kleenex, or do you pass them out. I have some that you would think would be old enough to go get a kleenex and blow their nose, 3 to 5 age group. Yesterday I had to put up the kleenex. I had a 4 1/2 yr old in less than 15 minutes, pull out at minimum 10 kleenex, and "try" to blow and dab her nose. I finally put them up. They were misusing them.

So how do you all handle the kleenex issue.

This is just one more thing that I wonder why parents don't send in a box when their child has a horribly runny nose. I guess they think we can buy all the supplies their children need. Maybe we should have the rule if your children need their nose wiped more than 3 times in one day they can't come to care. JK.

I do have one mom who has brought in 2 boxes of kleenex and 3 containers of lysol. Very grateful to those kind of moms.

My parents are required to bring Huggies diapers, wetones and tissues, and of paper towels
With the flue season I also require lysol spray.
If they are here 1 to 3 days a week they have to bring pk 1, if 4 to 7 days they must bring pack 2. All are due by the 10 th of each month or there is a $15 fee for pack 1 or $30 for pack due added to their following Monday's bill.

50 or more pk of Huggies diapers
100 or more pk wipes any brand w/out aloe
1 retangle box tissues
1 pk paper towels
1 can Lysol spray can & wipes

pk 2
100 or more pack Huggies diapers
200 or more pk wipes w/ou aloe
2 retangle boxes tissues
2 pks papertowels
2 cans spray lysol & wipes

non wearing diapers bring everything but diapers amd 1 or 2 bottles of hand soap for the bathroom.

With everyone bringing the same brand of diapers (only use Huggies here) I only have to have 1 of each size diaper open and parents do not have to worry about bringing them every day. If I run out I supply the rest. In 18 years I only did that 2 time.

After the parents get charged the non bringing cost they decide it is easier to do it themself & cheaper. Especially since I offer coupons in the bill holder for them to take and always tell parents the latest offer.

I do did have 1 Mom who only wanted to buy Luv's. After 2 months of having to bring extra because that was for her children only she switched to Huggies. .

Parents must also provide me with a sick kit for each child when they come the 1 st day.
sick kit: 1 bottle age appropiate Tylonol &/or Motrin with their child's name & dose on it. 1 container Vicks vapor baby wipe, 1 tube Butt paste or A&D ointment, 1 bottle pedilite or Gatorade. They also must provide a dropper for meds. IF they have 2 children they can use the same kit as long as 2 droppers are provided with both names and dossages on bottle. Parents must update every 6 months for children over 18 months. Under 18 months is every 3 months. All prescription meds must be in a pharmacy bottle with state required info and a dropper.

I have my kleenex up high--learned the hard way too. kids just waste them. And it really ****s when they use them all up, and then I don't have anymore.

I actually have it in my policy that if their child has a continuous runny nose that they need to bring in a box of kleenex. I also have it in there that if it is runny for a long period of time they need to medicate before dropping child off and leave meds here. We have a lot of allergies with the dust and weeds during warmer weather so it was driving me nuts! My dcp have doen real well with helping.

I give them a tissue when they need one. After they use it I will either throw it away or set it a side & tell them they can use again later if need to. Sounds cheap I know but sometimes the tissue they used realy wasnt used.

I put them up too...partly because of the issue you described and partly because if I didn't someone would pull them all out and make confetti!

What I am going to have the parents bring

I give them one when they need it.
I am thinking of having all the parents bring the following for the winter season:

1 3-pack of puffs plus
1 container of lysol disinfectant wipes
1 can of Lysol
1 bottle of hand sanitizer

Bring your own kleenex! I have the parents supply a box and keep it in their child's locker. The kids have to get their own kleenex out, but I try to make sure they aren't being too wasteful.

Put it up high enough (kitchen table, counter, taller piece of furniture) so that the younger ones can't reach, but the older ones (usually more responsible) can get to it if they need it.

My kleenex's are out for the children to use when needed. I don't want their runny noses touching the clean toys or blankets. I don't let them re-use either because that is how germs can get more power so to say. That is just gross and as a parent that would upset me to knwo there were dirty kleenex set aside.

I had an issue with a 2 year old just taking them but I just told her no and kept on her for a couple of days and she learned.

IMO it cost $2 per month which is better than me getting sick for a day or children getting sick and loosing the income.

I agree...saving a Kleenix for later after it has snot in it grosses me out. We don't need to penny pinch that much do we? Talk about germs!!! My box is on the counter. The older (3-5) can reach them but the 2 year olds can't. Then they go directly in the trash and hand sanitizer is used.

Good grief. What the heck do they pay you for? Raise your rates $15/month if you can't afford these items. They're tax deductible when used for your business. I would not take my child to a provider who required all these things. Diapers, wipes & formula, yes... but kleenex, paper towels & lysol? No way. Those are household items. Sorry, not picking you out specifically, since many people said they require parents to bring these things, but you had the most detailed explanation, so I quoted you. I was just amazed that someone would require these items. Do you expect them to bring toilet paper? Crayons? Coloring books? Ingredients for lunches & snacks? Craft supplies? No. They are a part of your business expenses. Not trying to be judgmental, I'm just taken aback by this.

I have to agree with you. If I was looking for child care I would definately pass this one by. It would make me feel that she was only in it for money and didn't want to go out of her way to purchase needs for the children. JMO, no offense.

It reminds me of school. We pay thousands of dollars in school taxes per year but then are required to buy crayons, pencils, kleenex, lysol, books, lunches etc. Then the teachers send too much homework. Why do we pay the taxes? I feel it's the same concept.

Yes the parents are required to bring everything on the school supply list. Guess what? The kids don't use it half of it! I don't know about any one else's area but in our neck of the woods (TX), you should see the school lists we have! It's like 2-3 times of what a child would need. I am talking about Kindergarten! Would you like to know why? It's because those extra supplies are used for the children who do not bring or can not afford these supplies. So, it falls on to other parents to supply these. That is also why the school doesn't want you to write your child's name on the supplies either.

Speaking of Kleenex, I once had a little boy whose mother was a 1st grade teacher. This boy CONSTANTLY had a drippy nose. Well I had to tell her that since his nose was always running, she needed to start bringing in boxes of tissues. Which she did.

So just happened one day, another boy brought in a box of Kleenex. I thought I would put their names on the boxes. I put his name on the box. I went to write the teacher's son's name on his box and on the bottom of the box was a name. It was from a girl in her class! This mother took the tissue from her classroom and used it for her son. It didn't only happen this once by the way.

I just think that that's wrong of the teachers in our school system to use other parents things either for their own use or for another child.
