    My Interview Today

This is for a part timer and the parents that said there was issues with the previous provider. The interview went great actually. Hope this works out! I guess the previous provider had three tiny babies (2 and 3 month olds) and then this 8 month old girl that I would be taking. The provider told the parents that the 8 month old was too energetic and she couldn't watch her anymore. But this little girl wasn't crawling or pulling up so I don't know what she meant by too energetic. It sounded like she was just really loving the sleep-all-day baby stage and not ready for the energy of an almost mobile child. The provider had one child (one of the babies) so maybe she just really didn't realize that they all will get like this in just a few months. The little girl played with toys, looked around alertly and wanting to pull up and explore but nothing strange for the age. Anyway, she would fit in well with our group I think. Hope to hear from the mom soon. I have an interview for my full time spot tomorrow.

Babies do change alot. I wonder if that provider was new just because she had a baby? It's kind of funny, but true the little ones sleep about half the day I think. We have 2 three month olds right now and they sleep a lot, but they're still a lot of work to wait while they eat and keep them happy while they're awake. It's easier on us when the babies have other young children to watch actually because kids entertain each other so well!

Sounds like the interview went well - and good luck with your second interview today!!

Around 8-12 months seems to be when lots of "grandmas" stop "babysitting" their grandchildren too And when parents start looking for other daycare arrangements. When the child no longer simply eats and sleeps - and begins getting mobile and wanting to explore their environment, it becomes too much for many grandmas apparently.::

      Hope they sign with you!!

yeah I think that that provider's only child was still an infant and she is just unaware of what a normal 8 month old would be like. I'll keep you posted but the little girl I met seemed perfectly normal for the age.

When parents give you a reason like this as the reason it didn't work with previous provider you should be a little suspicious. My guess is she is a screamer.

It doesn't make sense that she's too energetic when she's basically imobile. The provider may have SAID energetic but she most likely meant she's a crier.

When providers give up a kid at this age it usually has to do with crying and not sleeping.

This was my first thought, too. Hopefully that's not the case for you .

Exactly what I was thinking also. I hope she doesn't turn into a cryer or an "arm baby" who wants to be carried around.

Off the subject, did I read it correctly or did she say that the last provider had 4 infants including the 8mo? How lucky is that? I'm in CA and we can't have more than 3 infants and here infants are kids from 0-2 years old. Oh, how I wish that I could have ALL babies ESPECIALLY the 6-12 month ones .

I asked specifically if that was the word the provider used "energetic". They said yes. Then I asked if possibly the provider was having issues with excessive crying or not napping (I'm pretty straight forward) because those are both issues that come up with that age child. And they said no. Supposedly they straight out asked the provider what the exact issue was and she just kept telling them that the little girl was too energetic for her set up and compared to the other kids. The 8 month old was one of four babies but all the rest were newborns basically. If she turns into a screamer, I can probably deal with that. We have the space to CIO if necessary and I don't cater to babies wanting to be carried all the time. We'll see if she even calls back.
