    2 year old boys & hitting/throwing toys

How do you stop it? Nothing I'm doing is helping. If I could term him I would, but this time it's my own I have never in 15 years of babysitting, nannying, or child rearing had a child who thinks hitting is this much FUN! Its a game to him. He laughs and giggles. I don't know where he gets it either. He just started a couple of weeks ago and the last 2 days have been BAD! His victim is either myself or his older sister. Thank goodness he hasn't hurt a DCK. He is developmentally delayed, cognitive & speech, and is about on track with an 18 month old. Is there any hope or do I just have to wait this out? He gets EI and they have been of no help.

My son is 2 (just turned 2 actually) and does occassionally hit me or his cousin who is very close in age. I think he is frustrated and cant think forward enough to communicate it in a better way. I pretend to cry when he hits me and say, "ohh, that makes mommy said. That makes my heart hurt." He always says sorry, give me a hug and kiss and tries to make me feel better. I have found that more effective than any type of time out, punishment, etc. At least for my son he is too little to connect the hitting to a time out/punishment yet.

We have taken a toy away if these two are particularly agressive over one item. Usually both are upset toy is gone and will shape up pretty quick, moving toward playing together instead of against one another. I think its typical but needs to be addressed so it doesnt become a pattern.

I also try to think of what I would feel like if other kids were coming into my home everyday, taking, touching, playing with my toys everyday. I think its a hard concept for a little one to understand, going from having all the toys to himself every evening and weekend to all of a sudden having to share everything with 6 other kids who just bust in the door and start grabbing everything in sight- so to speak anyway.
