Well that was a first. Sent dcg to bed...

So my 2 yo dcg came in crying (mom says it's because she took away dcg's cheerios). She proceeded to keep crying for almost 20 minutes--the big wracking, heaving sobs. Snuggling just got my shirt wet and didn't calm her down. I finally asked her if she wanted to go lay down for a nap and she said yes sooooo....I did....she's still crying though. Not as hard and more intermittently, but it was the only thing I could think of.

Ten minutes later she's still upset... Do I get her up or leave her there? I can't figure out what's wrong and why she won't calm down this morning... she's normally a sensitive, quick-to-cry little girl but this is more over the top than she usually is.

I've offered that to my 2 1/2 year old DCB before...he usually snuggles down, cries it out and let's me know when he's ready to get up again. They need that sometimes....

I'd pat her back and check her temp...maybe she's under the weather???

I agree that sometimes, especially at that age, they just need a quiet place to calm down. I would keep checking up on her, make sure she's not running a fever or anything, and let her cry it out. How is she now?

Still upset. No fever though. Poor thing.

I sent dcg to bed the other day b/c she couldn't or wouldn't stop her fit. She's usually quick with stopping the tears, but this time it went on for a good 20 minutes. She was still pouty when we went to school, but was fine by the time we got back. I think the fresh air did her some good.

I'd just leave your dcg alone for a bit. Like the others said, she probably needs to be by herself. She'll be ok. Maybe offer her a drink of water. That might stop the sobbing cycle...can't cry and drink at the same time.

I had a DCB (also 2 years old) do the same thing this morning. I said "do you want to lye down in your crib" he said "yes". He did kep on crying and I just checked on him every few minutes and asked him if he was ready to come out. When he finally said yes and I took him out he did much better and has been his usual happy self. Guess he just needed some down time.

When I went back to check on her she stood up and held out her arms. I gave her a hug and she collapsed against me, gave one huge shuddering sob, and stopped crying. So, I carried her back out to the playroom and sat and snuggled her for a few minutes...she looked like she might doze off but didn't. After about ten minutes I set her down and told her to go play. She did, but she's been weepy and "fragile" since then.

We'll have to see how the day goes.
