Party Food Can We Claim It?

I threw a xmas party for all of my families and kids. I bought and supplied all of the foods and drinks... Can I write this off?

Bumping for Tom to hopefully answer. The other threads don't answer the specific question. I'm curious because I have two daycare family get together's each year and have always written off all of the items - food, decorations, etc. as activity expenses. These are get togethers that are specifically for current or former daycare families.

Yes you can. Entertaining for business is a deduction. We have a big BBQ at out home every summer for our clients and I claim it on my taxes under entertainment.

          I do.

I have a big summer party and a Christmas party for my daycare families; I buy all the things for the party in one trip and make sure there is nothing 'personal' on the receipt. In the summer I rent a big bounce house, in the winter I have Santa come to the party; I write it all off. One thing I also do, is I make sure that I have photos of Santa and the bounce house and the food (with the date) and the relay races, etc. as a little additional proof that it isn't a big family get together or something, kwim?

If it is a legitimate expense, don't be afraid to write it off. It's when it's not legitimate the you have to worry.

I'm definately not afraid of writing it off because it is something that I specifically do for my daycare families, I was just curious if I was writing it off in the correct area.
