Off Subject...Put In A Good Word Or No?

I recently had an interview at the Childrens Hospital in my area...I have had two interviews total, interviewing with 3 people each time so I total of 6 people asking my questions. Overall, I think it went very well and they were very impressed with me and my experience, from my past positions working in a child care, working in a hospital, nanny position and currently running my In-Home Child Care.

They gave me a schedule to show the days that I would be working if I got hired...I dont know if they did this for everyone or not?

I asked for a tour of the unit I would be working on..I read online that if you ask this it sets you apart from other interviewers because many people wouldn't ask this. They were very impressed and delighted to show me the unit ( noone else had asked this).

They said I would be hearing from Human Resources ( they didnt say when)

At my first interview they said it could take up to 2 weeks to get all of the interviews finished.

I sent thank you letters to every person I interviewed with.

Here is my question, my neighbor/friend works at the same Childrens Hospital in the same unit I would be getting hired, she is a RN. She said she knows the Clinical Coordinator that I interviewed with because she works the evening shift when she is working. She said she would put in a good word for me tonight when she works...Should she say anything to put in a good word or should I just let it run its course and see what they decide...I don't know if her "good word" will mean anything...She has only been working there for 5 months...I didn't know if that would look bad or not??? She has never personally really see me around children expect one of her neices... Any Advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    My thought:

If you can't get the job on your own, it's probably not meant to be. You never know what another person might say or if they'll wind up sticking their foot in their mouth.

I was also thinking how much do you know about this neighbor? Is she a good worker, doing a good job in her position? If you don't know these things then I would not ask her for "a good word". Good luck!!!!

exactly - a "good word" from the wrong person may keep you from getting a job!

Let your acheivements stand on their own. Once you're in there, you will have an ally.

I don't care to hire any of my employee's friends because it hasn't always been the best idea. They chat inside/ outside of work far more than everyone else and it can cause tension among everyone. (Not saying you are like that, but I've seen it happen often so I steer away from those recommendations.

I told her not to say anything because that would look unprofessional on my part and she said okay

jeepgirl, did you ask her how she got the job? How long did she have to wait? Are you applying for an RN or something else?

BTW, I think in the end most jobs now with some qualifications go based off personality. I have NO office experience, but a degree and was hired because I was most likely to fit in with the other employees. 75% true and I'm holding off on my notice because my good days outweigh the bad days still, . (It's only been a few months and I want to quit because of ONE person who works there UGH, I can't wait for home daycare to start up for me!)
