    It's Not Allergies

I'm so sick of some parents blaming sick snotty noses, hacking mucusy coughing all day, grumpy children that its allergies. I have one kid who is so sick, like I mean hacking bronchitis cough on allergies. He started in dec. with me and every week he is getting worse. He goes to the clinic all the time, so before I left on vac. I asked dad if he has ever had a chest xray. Dad is like, "no" so dad goes and gets one, well low and behold, the kid has fluid on the lungs and possibly pneumonia (at this point we've all be exposed since dec. so there is nothing we can do) so today he has an appointment with a specialist. But when I came back on tues, I said to dad that he now sounds even worse than when I left, so he hasn't been here for 2 days because he knows I'm right. But once again he's saying its probably allergies. ITS NOT ALLERGIES, YOUR KID IS FRICKIN SICK!!!!

If he's that sick from allergies he should see a doctor anyway. There is no reason for anyone to suffer needlessly from allergies in this day and age. An allergy attack is one thing but daily symptoms indicate allergens in their home and that's an issue that they should address IMO.

Just wanted to add that kids with severe allergies can appear sick. I used to miss school for allergies frequently when I was a child. I only improved after I started getting biweekly allergy shots when I was 14. No prescription or OTC med did much for me.

I know! I have one kiddo like that. Last time I refused to take her, mom finally went to the doctor and it was bronchitis. This happens every other month with this family. The other thing I always get here is "oh its teething" and this is the reason for everything from hitting to tantrums.

I have one going to the doctor today for the same symptoms. I really think it's bronchitis. We'll see what the doctor says. Parents really think it's just allergies but it's been lingering cough and runny nose for months now.

I had the same thing. Dcb had a horrible cough and a fever that would come and go. Mom took him in 3 or 4 times and the dr. kept saying it was allergies or a virus. They finally diagnosed him with pertussis which is very contagious and super dangerous for infants. All the kids seemed to catch it but luckily the babies didn't get too sick, and they are all on the mend.

            Agree!

I've had this problem too!!! I finally had to say something to this one mom who was famous here for saying her kids have "allergies" when there noses were dripping thick green snot... I told her "Wow... I guess 'allergies' are contagious these days because when your kids came here with 'allergies' on Monday, now 3 of the other kids have 'allergies' too!... Including me"

She would ALWAYS blame the allergies but after that she never said it again. It turned out her kid's allergies was a strep throat & an awful cold & fever. Errrr...

Guess I'm really lucky, one parent is a nurse, one works for an ENT and the other is a OT and in a clinic all day. They NEVER blame anything on allergies!!::::::::::

I'm so sick, literally, from the "allergy" excuse. And this from a dcm who is a nurse! I've been able to fight all the germs off myself until this week. I was 1/2 tempted to close today just to make a point. I'm not really sick enough to close, but if my fever went any higher I would have had to exclude myself. ::
