I'm not oppose to taking it every 3 years, because nothing really changes. I'm opposed to having to pay for it every year. Last time a radon test. The test was free at the health dept. the place you got the results from was $29.99. It seems to be a bunch of little things that they add that cost money. My next renewal is in Oct. 2012. I'm thinking of not renew at all. The last 3 years it has gotten harder and harder to get kids. My area is high in unemployment, and my location is 4 miles from town. The unlicensed providers closer to town are getting all the kids. Sorry for the little rant, being licensed irritates me lately.
I know a lot of MI providers that are not getting relicensed again b/c of all the newer rules. And MI is a state where you NEED to be licenced to watch any kids at all that are not related, unlike other states where you can keep it to a minimum number.

If you aren't going to take care of children the way you should, rules aren't going to change that.
If they ever require us to have individual cribs for infants, I would have to eliminate infant care from my program. I just don't have room for cribs, especially since we can't have them sleep in a separate area, I'm sure my husband and children would love to have cribs in the living room!
I don't like cribs. I don't like the vertical poles and how shallow they are.

I forsee a time when it will be hard to find manufacturers willing to make them because of the liability. I'm surprised that there aren't "do not leave child unattended in this equipment" marks embedded into the ones that are being made now. I see that coming too.

Have you read the new "babysitter" law? You can "babysit" unrelated kids as long as you don't make over $600.00 a year or you don't get paid. If your paid in cash how are they going to know and if the state shows up and you had kids and you said I'm only watching them for today or a week, how are they going to prove your not. Are they going to keep coming back to see if you have the same kids. I doubt it.

Yeah, but I don't see many parents that would not want to claim the child care credit on their taxes. Also you can't write off any home deductions if you aren't licensed in MI.
Really it seems in MI the government want every child in a daycare center and even the family homes need to look like centers. Even rules like the NO Smoking sign that needs to be posted-even though it's easy and cheap, I was ticked off by that one. This is my HOME. I should not have to post a no smoking sign on my front door!

Parents are going to want the deduction. Even if you agree to do it in cash they will do that until tax time. Soon as tax time comes they wil want a receipt.

Whatever you say to the State they will most likely press further. They have had the "I'm just babysitting my nephews" trick pulled on them thousands of times. It's like the "oh it's teething or allergies" to us.

When people are cheating they mostly all do and say the same thing. They have the same body language, the same words, the same inflection in their words, same eye contact.... Any inspector that has ANY experience will recognize the lying before you even finish the sentence because they have seen it SO many times before.

They don't have to keep coming back to see if you have the same kids. The kids you have in the house will do. Once they start asking SPECIFICS about the kids and the parents they will catch at least one of the parties in the lies. Once a parent is put on the spot ... knowing THEY and their kids are at risk for trouble... they will flip like an olympic gymnast on the provider.

You would not believe how many unlicensed providers there are in my area. Parents here must not care. I agree that is a big deduction not to use.
I didn't mean to sound like that's what I'm going to do, because it's not. I will not be watching kids if I decide not to renew my license. I'm saying with the new law licensing has opened up a whole set of new problems for themselves, that they will never be able to police. When my licensing consultant came when I moved she said that my area had 12 consultants and 6 retired and they were not going to replace them. Then I got moved to a different area and my next visit, he said that they were down to 4 and he was retiring in Jan. Now there are 3 for a good sized area and when you call you never talk to anyone, you can leave message and it takes at least 4 days for them to get back to you. That's why I don't think that they will come back even if they do show up in the first place.
