Kids Who Seem To Still Need A Morning Nap

I have an almost 2 year old who is a BEAR in the morning. But if I put him down for even a short morning nap (which he would take no problem), he will not sleep in the afternoon. He is being a whiny mess this morning, being super naughty and has been in and out of time out, but I really don't want to put him to bed or my afternoon will be shot. Ugh. What do you think?!

I wouldn't either. It will just make your day unbearable later on, and then he'll be tired, go to bed too early for mom and dad, and then be a mess again tomorrow.

Can you try some type of sleep training? Move nap time down 1/2 hour for him, and then do that for a while until he gets used to going down at the regular nap time.

Also, do you know what time he wakes up in the morning? Maybe they could let him sleep a little later?

I have a little girl the same age that still needs two naps somedays. Sometimes this morning nap makes her think she doesnt need an afternoon nap but once I lay her down and she is still for a few minutes she is asleep. He may require LOTS of supervision to get to sleep. Normaly if they are tried enough for two naps adn you can get them to lay still long enough they will fall asleep.

I have two that age that need naps some mornings. If I suspect a cranky day I get them down by 9am and up again by 10. We play hard outside that day and they'll sleep at naptime with no problems.

Have you tried two naps, or are you just assuming he won't take a second afternoon nap?

There are plenty of times I need to nap a child twice in a day due to grumpiness and they never miss out on PM nap if they have an AM one. If a kid is cranky/tired, they go down at 9am to 10am and then again 1pm to 3pm - never had a problem.

I have a little girl who is 27 months that starts rubbing her eyes and asking for a nap around 10:30 at least twice a week. She looks sooooo tired that I feel terrible and put her in. Then, like you said no afternoon nap for her and she also keeps the others up.
