How Should I Handle This? Possible Day Off

Friday is an off day for the SA's (it's a teacher in-service day). I sent out a reminder of that about two weeks ago (newsletter AND email) stating that I required notification by Friday the 25th if they planned to have the kids come for the day. I heard from everyone except my newest family, and no one else will be here.

I'd really like the day off with my own kids and have something that I'd like to do with them that day. I had already decided that if they asked me yesterday or today, I'd tell them that they missed the deadline and that I'd already made plans. However, they haven't mentioned it at all. Now I'm afraid that if I don't say anything, that they'll show up at my door at 7am and wake us up. However, if I just flat out tell them that they can't come Friday, does that make me look bad? Also, if they ask for a discount, should I give them one?

      yep--this.

As for the discount; do you usually charge for this kind of day? Is anyone else getting charged for the day? I'd go by what the other families are doing.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Usually I'm open for these days off. The reminder said that I'm open, but let me know by this date if you plan to be here. Generally my argument is "it's your decision not to come for the day when I'm open", but if no one is coming and I make other plans... I don't know.

Well the time frame to reply had passed. Don't feel like you have to open because they didn't respond. If your worried, tell them: I just wanted to make sure you are aware that no one has responded by the dead line, so I have decided to close the daycare since I'm not needed. Or something to that extent.

I offer free parents night out once a montg and require two week reservation. If they don't RSVP by set date they don't get to come. I actually had one family get mad because they called me an hour before the parents night started and expected me to change my plans. After that I set the two weeks notice. If no one signs up then I close and make other plans.

Maybe you should post it on your door Thursday morning.

You should have entered something in the notice that if you did not have a response, you would assume the answer was no they are not coming and plan accordingly. Personally, I would ask and accommodate this one time and in the future, make the notice 100 percent clear and non refutable. I have learned to always assume parents are not going to respond and word my notices accordingly and to my advantage.
