I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with #2 and finding it extremely hard some days and not too bad others. It was way worse at the beginning because I had really really bad nausea and vomiting--until 22 weeks! I mostly just feel bad now because I can't keep up with them like I could before and feel like I'm not doing as much with them! Lol. I'm going to be done with daycare after the baby comes (I'm in Canada and self-employed people are now eligible for a year of Maternity leave)--there is no WAY I could go back to it 2 or 3 days or even weeks after baby came, I honestly don't know how anyone could do that! Kudos to you ladies who do!

I took off 4 months with my last (1 before, and 3 after the birth), and we were also moving to a new house, and my husband didn't get any time off. I remember when DD was 5-6 months old, and I had been open for a couple of months thinking to myself that I would NEVER start when my baby was that young again, as she was colicky, and just didn't sleep her first year of life.
This time (i'm due in June), i'm taking off 1 month before, and 3 months after, but DH is taking 9 months of parental leave from work, so he'll be around to help me whenever I need it. If he decides to go back to work early, i'll hire an assistant to help until my baby is 6-8 months old, depending on how well they sleep. Maybe i'm just spoiled, but I found it hard last time, functioning on no sleep, and not being able to nap during the day.- Flag

I could never imagine going back 2 days after giving birth! But I guess we do what we have to do, right!- Flag

I already answered the question upthread, but I wanted to add that even at the point that I feel capable of returning to work, I don't WANT to yet. If I had a parent who had a problem with me wanting to be with just my own family for awhile. I don't think I would want to care for that family anymore. I can't imagine any other profession where a week or two of maternity leave would be acceptable. To be honest, I don't think anyone would want me caring for their kids when I have a brand new baby. That time is for me, DH, my newborn, and my other kids to bond. I don't have the energy or interest in dividing my time at that point.
That being said, we are very frugal and save our pennies in anticipation of this time off. It is a very conscious effort and requires a lot of creativity and sacrifice prior to the time off.- Flag
